Product Description

Give your iPhone or iPod a safe, secure place to charge. WallDock's cushioned top and pivoting dock provide total support without fit inserts. In the office, bedroom, kitchen - anywhere you need a convenient, cable-free charing solution. Clutter-free design. The cushioned top supports your iPhone or iPod without the need for fit inserts, keeping your area neat and clutter-free. It also hides the connector when not in use for a discreet, attractive charging solution. Fast charging. Don't sit around waiting for your device to charge! The power output of this charger ensures your device is fully charged in a shorter amount of time compared to standard, less powerful chargers. Pivoting dock. The 30-pin dock connector itself pivots which allows your device to simply rest backwards against the support without the need for clunky cradles or fit inserts. Plug-in charging dock. The wall-mounted dock gives your iPhone or iPod a save and secure place to charge. Simply plug the dock into the wall to cradle your iPod or iPhone - this gets your iPod or iPhone up off the floor where it could be stepped on, and up out of the way of spills and countertop messes. Safely charge your device. Plugging your device into a cable-based charger and leaving it on the floor or countertop puts your iPod or iPhone at risk of being stepped on or damaged from spills and splashes. Instead, using a wall-mounted charger elevates your iPod or iPhone for safe and secure charging. Turn any outlet into a dock. In the office, the bedroom, the kitchen - WallDock easily plugs in anywhere you need a convenient, cable-free charging solution. Plus, it's small enough to take it with you when you travel so you're ready to dock and charge when you arrive.

This is a very simple product, but it's well made, works well and looks good.

My iPod Nano has a very thin case on the bottom and it will just barely make the connection.

If keeping your iPod/iPhone in its case is vital to you, this product is not for you.

As a iPod user, I occasionally need to find one of the white usb cables to simply charge my iPod, and when a PC isn't handy, I need to find another source of USB power. I've gotten used to this limitation, but sometimes a simpler charging solution would be helpful. That's what this is for, but it falls short on a few levels.

First what works:
* charges iPods, iPhones, and many models of each
* has a cool flush connector (not quite hidden) which become accessible due to the rubber surround giving way)
* lacks a polarized plug, so it can fit in any (vertically oriented) outlet
* offers just enough of a grip on the dock connector to hold unit steady against wall but is easy to remove

Here's what doesn't
* doesn't support many cases (due to the flush plug only providing minimal clearance)
* does nothing else and occupies the dock connector (no outputs, Bluetooth, etc...)

Those two negatives are huge. One eliminates many users (myself included), and the other many uses. By being immobile (which isn't so much an issue as a design choice), I need to either not use my iPod or be very close, and when I use my iPod in one place, I need either line outs for my stereo or Bluetooth for stereo or wireless headphones. That's where the second issue becomes significant, as the best way (not the only way) to use either involves the dock.

$10 or less likely would merit another star for users who don't mind the issues, but that's not what I'm seeing.

This has a limited design purpose and, within that context, it works well. It charges an iPod or iPhone in a plug at eye level and allows it to be easily used. I've tried it with my iPhone and 2 different iPods and they all fit well and leaned back against the wall when charging. If you put it in the top outlet the bottom one will still be usable.

No, it doesn't work with a case which is a limitation of virtually all dock chargers. It does require two hands to insert the iPhone which can be a bit awkward if you're leaning across a counter.

This device has a very specific function and if that's what you're looking for it does the job and I don't think there is anything else like it. I give it 5 stars with that in mind and not for it's utility as a general purpose charger.

I thought that this iPhone/iPod charger would be handy for me while traveling for business. I generally try to charge my iPod via my laptop, using the iPod's USB cable. This is acceptable, but requires two devices, doesn't charge the iPod very quickly, and sometimes causes me grief due to the security software (and disallowal of iTunes) on my work laptop.

This charger's top has a flush design, which is made with a soft plastic that conforms, somewhat, to the shape of whatever iPhone or iPod model you have (Shuffles excluded). This design looks nice, but it makes it a little tricky to dock your iPod/iPhone, for two reasons:

1. You can't easily see the connector.

2. You must exert downward pressure on the charger to bend down the soft top. This means that if you plug the charger into the wall socket, then try to dock your iPod, the downward pressure you apply to the charger when docking the iPod will tip the unit forward and cause it to fall out of the wall socket. Therefore, you have to dock the iPod in the charger before plugging it in. This wouldn't be a problem, but the iPod (I used my iPod Touch for testing) does not firmly seat on the dock connector, so you have to balance it carefully as you plug the charger into the socket.

As other reviewers have noted, this charger won't accommodate your iPod/iPhone if it is in a case. (No iPod/iPhone dock that I own does either, so it's not an isolated shortcoming.) If keeping your iPod/iPhone in its case is vital to you, this product is not for you.

For my needs, as a traveler, it still makes more sense for me to pack the standard iPod USB cable, and acquire a small charging adapter with a USB port.

This is not a complicated product to understand and if you think about its limitations before ordering it you're probably going to come to the same conclusions I did. For some, this may be really ideal. For others, it may not work all that well. It depends a lot on your situation.

To be clear, as a dock it's great. I feel like any dock that looks good and can still fit an iPhone/iPod while its in a case is doing something right. This one is really small (although probably not as small as you'd think). It says it charges fast and it does, although I wouldn't say it's any faster than any other dock. Its main problems really have to do with its gimmick: it only plugs into the wall.

One thing that would make this product a little nicer is if it has a USB pass-through of some kind so if you were charging and wanted to sync you could. You could just hook up your laptop to the dock and you'd be able to charge. Perhaps this is beyond the scope of the product but it would be nice to have the option.

If that doesn't matter to you, what might are the limitations of where you can plug it in. One thing I didn't even think about until I had to consider where to place this dock is the positioning of the outlets in my apartment. I don't mean just that the majority of them are near the floor and not exactly in the most convenient positions, but that many of them have sideways plugs. In most cases that's no big deal. In this case, it means your iPhone will fall off the dock because the dock will have to be positioned vertically. Because DLO didn't allow you to twist the orientation of the plug, you're stuck using outlets that are oriented the same way.

Now, if you can find an outlet that's well-placed and properly oriented you'll be in pretty good shape.
