5.0 out of 5 stars A very fine recording of Miller classics, December 1, 1999

This review is from: In the Digital Mood (Audio CD)
I have recently upgraded my stereo system with new speakers and can now fully appreciate this fine recording. This all digital mastering of the original Miller arrangements is a joy to listen to. My only disappointment is that the running time of the CD is on the short side. Those of us who grew up hearing only the old recordings can now hear something that approaches the quality and power of a live Glenn Miller Orchestra performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Digital Glenn Miller - from GRP - the Masters, May 10, 2010
This review is from: In the Digital Mood (Audio CD)
Let's see. A limited gold edition of Glenn Miller, all cleaned up, suped, and absolutely stellar. What could be better than that???

The price is right, and you'll find the disc will go down as one of your favorite jazz recordings...ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars Original Glenn Miller, March 24, 2010

These are the original Glenn Miller arrangements, recorded digitally. These tunes are standards, In the Mood, Sunrise Serenade, Tuxedo Junction, etc. Excellent sound. I use it for teaching ballroom dancing. Especially swing.

I wanted something like what I heard in person in concert and this was very close. Would have rather hd a recording of the entire concert but this had the highlights.

4.0 out of 5 stars NOT an original recording, but good still the same, March 23, 2005
This review is from: In the Digital Mood (Audio CD)
I get the distinct feeling that the musicians in this 1983 recording are not having quite as much fun as Glenn Miller and his boys, but it's technically very good. The quality of the recording really does bridge most of the gap between the original and the reproduction. If this were re-recorded today, the mics and mixing would be better still, but I imagine even with the resurgence of swing music in the 90's one would be hard-pressed to find another Glenn Miller band. Contrary to the previous review however, this is not an original, re-mastered recording of Glenn Miller. These are Boomers and Gen-X'ers playing this music during the era of ABBA and Blondie and Purple Rain and other synthpop. So in that context I'd say they did a brilliant job. And I'm not knocking ABBA, but they really are the anti-Glenn Miller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music you grew up with but with modern acoustics!, August 29, 2005

This review is from: In the Digital Mood (Audio CD)
I am a baby boomer and was born at the end of the big band era. This was GREAT, lively, music that made you WANT to dance. Today's younger people feel the same and have made swing dancing a thing of today as well as yesterday. THIS CD presents the songs that made Glenn Miller a household name during World War II as performed by what is now called the Glenn Miller Orchestra. I found the performances to reflect the orginal life and spark of Miller himself. Since this was a digital recording, the sound quality is superb compared to the old 78s and 33s (younger readers will have to ask what these were).

Although, as another reviewer noted, the CD is SHORT, it is worth every penny!
