Z-5450 Digital 5.1 Multimedia Speaker System with Wireless Rear Speakers

I originally had a Logitech Z-5500 speaker set. There were a number of things I disliked about it though. Firstly, the sub woofer was freaking huge, making it extremely difficult to position it near my PC. Second, for a set of PC speakers it was something of an energy hog. Lastly, like nearly all surround sound systems, it was tedious to try to set up the rear speakers, as that would have meant needing to route the cable along the edges of the walls.

After a few months I heard about the Z-5450, a slightly older (and now discontinued) Logitech speaker system. I was immediately impressed by the specs of it. First, the rear speakers are wireless, only requiring a power outlet each. Second, it consumes less power. Third, the sub woofer is much more reasonable in size. And as a great bonus it even features an additional Digital Optical input, making the total 2, compared to the Z-5500's 1. I managed to obtain one used (but in practically new condition) for a very reasonable price, and I haven't looked back since. The sound quality is exactly the same as on the Z-5500, at least to my ears.

The speakers have plenty of inputs available. My current setup consists of my PC, a DVD player with a Digital Coaxial connection, a VCR with an adapter cable to the side stereo input, an Xbox 360 via Digital Optical, and my headset, with 1 more Digital Optical available for future use.

If you can manage to find a set of these speakers, I would highly recommend investing in them. As they are now discontinued by Logitech and with no real equivalents on the market, you will be very unlikely to find anything nearly as good.
