Just make sure this is the model you need, since it is not bi-directional. You must have an Optical OUTPUT and a Digital INPUT to connect, not the other way around.
Since it was what I needed, it works flawlessly. Another concern I had was if it would heat up too much, either when in use or when just connected but not in use. Heating up would indicate a waste of energy. It does not.

I read most of the reviews prior to purchasing, especially the ones complaining about intermittently having to reset the unit. I'd be lying if I wasn't slightly skeptical, but for the low price, it was worth a try. I haven't touched the thing once since adding it to my setup. It has worked flawlessly and the sound is excellent. Definitely recommend it - for this price you can't go wrong.

Great non-HDMI connection to my H/K receiver.,

This is by far the quality (BUT FAIRLY INEXPENSIVE) answer to connecting a PS3 to an older Harman/Kardon AV100 receiver when connections are limited or already used. My optical connection from my HDTV satellite receiver to the H/K receiver was already in place, no HDMI inputs were available, thus leaving the digital coax inputs as my best solution.
I connected the converter via a short HDMI (PS3) to Digital input cable (converter). Then from the Digital Out (converter) to Coax. 2 of the H/K. Then plugged the converter into a 110 outlet and I was up and running. It took a bit of research to determine how to tell the H/K that a digital signal was coming in. WOW! NOW MY BLU-RAY DVD'S and PS3 have the necessary Dolby 5.1 outputs. Being a tried and true Amazon.com believer, I chose to order all three products from them. The only problem was that the three products all came from three destinations (known in advance) so tracking the order(s) is a little cumbersome although not a problem otherwise. All 3 products have worked like a charm.

I wish in the description it would've stated this product does not output 5.1 surround. I ordered the Cables to Go 40019 Optical to Coaxial Digital Audio Converter (Black)which does output DTS and dolby digital 5.1. other then that the product does do what it states it does. I had no problems with anything else.

I had to get this converter in order to run from my new hdtv that had only optical digital audio out to an older surround sound system that had only digital coaxial in. This saved me from having to buy a new surround sound.edit: After only about 9 months I began to have problems with it cutting in and out on occasion. Now, after 11 months it seems completely dead.

I don't understand why not all products include at least one optical and one digital sound output/input. Its just a pain in the rear end to find out that at some point you will need one of this products to set up your ultimate home theater experience.

The only hitch I had was that they initially sent me the wrong unit; the IN and OUT were reversed. Once I sent pictures of what I had received verses what I ordered, I got the correct replacement unit and return shipping for the wrong one in fairly short order. Since installing it, I have not had to touch it at all, and that was over a year ago. I now get 5.1 surround on all of my inputs that support it (upconverting HDMI DVD player, HD-DVD player, Blu-ray player, and broadcast TV).
Life is good.

Bought this over a month ago, hooked it up and it has been working as I expected. Like one other review I read on this, you have to be sure you want to go from optical to coax. It's a one way converter.

This is just a physical media converter - in other words, all it does is convert fiber to copper media. However, it does it very well and I couldn't ask for a better price either - $11 bucks! The converter has worked perfectly for me for a month now.

It does what its supposed to I guess. Sound is fine. I dont get any of the popping or turning-off that others have described. Wish it wasnt "always-on" and could just auto on and off when the signal kicks on. Have it hooked up with PS3 and Bravia TV going to a Bose Lifestyle system (why no optical-in? I dont know)
