This review is from: Digital Photography Boot Camp: A Step-by-Step Guide for Professionals (Paperback)
Kevin Kubota was one of the first professional photographers to turn to digital photography. After being asked by other professionals about digital techniques he began Kubota Workshops (www.kubotaworkshops.com) and began teaching the Digital Photography Boot Camp where professional photographers would spend a week learning enough to make the transition to digital. This book is an on paper view of the workshop. It cannot, of course, replace the full week of hands on personally supervised workshop, but it can explain the overall concepts, it can provide a professional to professional view of the digital process and enable the professional photographer to take the expertise he already has to transition to digital.
The book covers all aspects digital photography, but for professionals. It doesn't go review all the cameras, it assumes that as a pro you'll have a digital SLR not a point and shoot. And of course the 'digital dark room' he uses is Photoshop. Again this is not a book on Photoshop, but it does show the pro what Photoshop can do to enhance your pictures. By a pro, for a pro.

A must have for the new Digital Photographer,
This review is from: Digital Photography Boot Camp: A Step-by-Step Guide for Professionals (Paperback)
Nothing is missing in this book, Kevin Kubota covers it all! I got this book with my first digital camera (Canon 5D) and I believe it is a must have for someone going digital. He gives it all way in this book, from setting up your camera, white balancing, color management, file management, workflow, to tweaking.
This book has really helped me in all my workflow, saving me many hours and mistakes. Kevin's book paid for itself many times on my first digital wedding.

The Book that Shines on the Shelf! A true Gem!,
This review is from: Digital Photography Boot Camp: A Step-by-Step Guide for Professionals (Paperback)
Excellent - you can tell he gives it his all - tells you all his knowledge and doesn't hold anything back!!! He answers EVERY question you could have about a didgital workflow for your studio right now plus many really great photoshop tips that you will use all the time. In the past 4 months I have been Borders favorite customer buying over 40 books on digital photography and this is a favorite for sure. Many books I have read you can tell the photographer holds back, gives a taste but doesn't cough it all up. Kubota does - buy it!

Amateur photography books written by amateurs abound. Rarer is a book about digital photography written on a professional level. Kubota is obviously a master photographer who also is a craftsman with language. Best of all, he knows exactly what other pros need to understand to make the transition to digital photography. This book is truly a step-by-step guide with everything you wanted to understand about the requirements of a successful pro career. Although billed as a "boot camp" this book actually goes into a surprising amount of depth. Recommended.

A MUST HAVE!,
This review is from: Digital Photography Boot Camp: A Step-by-Step Guide for Professionals (Paperback)
Every Digital Photographer should have a copy of Kevin's book. This is the book I've been waiting for... Kevin Kubota answers the questions I've been asking about digital workflow for years, his simple straight-forward language makes it easy to understand. Kevin's also willing to teach you little tricks with layers, masks and effects that will give your photos a polished look. Kevin's willingness to share his artistry & expertise is a rare find; his laid back manner in doing so makes this book well worth the price!

A promotion for his PS actions...,

If you happen to like K. Kubotas actions - then buy them and forget about the book - really its not that much of a book but just a promoion for his Ps actions. There is a 6-7 page chapter in the book wich contains a littel image enhancement - three or four tutorials on his Ps actions. The rest - setting up PS, shooting raw ect you can read about in much better books like Martin Evenings or K. Eismanns.

Great intro to digital, but worthwhile for experienced too,

This is a great book written with obvious enthusiasm for photography, but particularly digital photography. Kubota reveals all the tips and tricks you'd ever need to make the transition from film to digital, but the book is just as useful for those already on that path who might need some structure or guidance to get organised!
I found the sections on workflow to be very useful, although it does focus on one software program that not everyone will purchase. The photo effects and ideas on Photoshop actions was also excellent - it has saved me hours of time doing conversions to black & white, reducing file size for the net etc. All in all an excellent book!

Great book for photographers working to get a grip on Photoshop. Kevin Kubota is a known talent and teacher and does a marvelous job giving simple, easy to understand instructions and I use what I've learned from the book everyday I work in Photoshop. I've recomeded it to my fellow photographers and I bought another copy to send to my daughter who is a photographer in Australia.

Boot Camp has helped me tremendously. I made the switch from film to digital in my photography business 4 months ago. I really didn't know what I was getting myself into, but this book has made the transition successful. I keep it right next to my Mac and use it almost every day. The three most important tools for me in my business...my Canon camera, my Mac computer, and Boot Camp by Kevin Kubota.

Photoshop Boot Camp-Step by Step Guide for the Beginner,

With all the excellent reviews I was expecting a book that would offer a lot more than it did. Two thirds of this work deals with post capture processing.
For the most part this is a book on how to manipulate your capture to get a more pleasing final product. Photo Shop One on One is much more comprehensive and I would recommend that book for anyone that us interested in learning how to in Photoshop. To Boot Camps credit the author does a good job in explaining how to correct the hand full of short commings in capture with Photoshop. More bang for your post capture processing buck and knowledge else where. |
