Generic photography advice,
By Pix_Z (Long Beach, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Digital Photography Q & A: Great Tips & Hints from a Top Pro (A Lark Photography Book) (Paperback)
Note: This review is about the photography tips in this book, not about post processing (such as how to digitally alter your photographs or print them out). I'm a professional graphic designer and felt I didn't need to read this section of the book.
This book is a beginning digital photography book in Q & A format. It seemed appealing because I could read one question at a time, without having to devote several hours in one sitting to it. When I glanced at the questions in this book it actually looked like it was going to answer some questions that I've always wondered about. But the author's answers to a lot of questions seem to literally boil down to experimenting with f-stops and shutter speed. How do I shoot a low light picture? Answer: experiment with the f-stops and shutter speed. Although I realize you do have to experiment, I was expecting something more like an exact setting to start off with. Even photographs with his settings underneath would've helped more. Don't get me wrong, there were some good tips in there, but you have to wade through a lot of generic advice that you could've figured out for yourself. For this reason I think the book is not a total loss, but you'll probably find better technique titles out there. |
