5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Learn-Professional Results
Finally, a book that offers simple, easy to understand methods that help one turn digital photos into professional images! Book explains hardware and offers Photoshop procedures that are much easier to learn than from any other Photoshop book I've used. Includes dozens of photo-illustrations to show what results will be. Also helps with printing images on deskjets,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not even for novices...
This book is definitely not all it's cracked up to be. As a book that touts that it is THE book on digital photography, it is really for the sub-novice user. In fact, it's insulting to anyone who has experience in photography, computer usage and imaging software. Over half the book is devoted to Adobe Photoshop. Which is interesting, because for the novice...

Book explains hardware and offers Photoshop procedures that are much easier to learn than from any other Photoshop book I've used. Includes dozens of photo-illustrations to show what results will be. Also helps with printing images on deskjets, with information on paper, settings, etc. Great for the layperson and professional designer getting started in digital photo manipulation. I'm going to buy more copies for friends & family!

In fact, it's insulting to anyone who has experience in photography, computer usage and imaging software. Over half the book is devoted to Adobe Photoshop. Which is interesting, because for the novice "home" user, I doubt that Photoshop is the program of choice. If it is written with the professional in mind, the information provided is basic and hardly worth the investment. Digital photography is still in its infancy, so a deluge of books are probably on their way. Wait for something better to come along.

1.0 out of 5 stars Photoshop book masquerading as a digital photography book, November 20, 2000
This review is from: Digital: Photography: Handbook: A User's Guide to Creating Digital Images (Paperback)
I really wanted this to be a good book, because it was a gift from my 12-year old son. Maybe next time...

The title and cover of the book clearly state that it "covers every aspect of digital photography." That is simply not true. Of 160 pages, 100 are about what to do with preexisting digital images. Most of that focuses on using Photoshop, with a short section on printing. The other 60 pages are fluff ranging between explaining binary numbers and instructions on scanning film photos. I didn't find a single tip on how to take better digital photos.

In a few months there will be a glut of good books on digital photography, to satisfy all those people who get digital cameras for Christmas. I recommend waiting for one of those books.
