I teach a university-level introductory computer class. One nice benefit of being a professor is publishers like to send you text books for review. Right now I'm reviewing a stack of introductory computer books. Digital Planet is one of the best I have reviewed so far. It covers all the topics you would expect in an introductory text and includes just enough human interest stories to keep the reader engaged. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants a better understanding of computers and the digital revolution.

I was required to have this for a college class. The book is more like a giant technology magazine with pictures and technical descriptions of cell phones, digital cameras, video, the internet, MP3 music, and computers. It doesn't challenge you like a textbook, its more like a quick reference guide to newer technology. I have sold many of my old textbooks after the class was over, but this one I kept because it contains so much useful information! Although its a college textbook, I feel that any grade level would find this book useful.

For a textbook, this book is well worth it's price. However, I recommend that if your course requires a lab code, it's best if you purchase the bundle instead of buying them both separately. I made that mistake and regret it. If you only need the textbook, this is a great chance to get it.

Content in chapters is informative and easy to study. Offers multiple format which makes study time go faster. Questions at the end of the chapters can be tricky and hard to answer [even the multiple choice and true or false questions].

Only reason why I ended up giving it 3 stars was mainly because I needed It for class and didn't realize it is only the introductory edition so I had to spend the additional 60.00+ to rent the complete version....my lack of paying attention to detail I guess.

Boring, outdated, book (required textbook for a class). Should be retitled Yesterday's Technology. Don't bother (unless it is forced on you---and then I've very glad I rented it rather than purchasing the book!)
