2.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
I ordered this book with something else on a whim. I thought it would be more than just a price list, but I found some of the intros entertaining and some of the stories were interesting. I would recommend it overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable Resource for the Classic Game Collector!, September 29, 2002
By

This review is from: Digital Press Video Game Collector's Guide (Paperback)
An excellent guide to practically every home video game system from the 70s and 80s. I've been collecting games for over 10 years (playing them for over 25) and thought I knew a lot about games...but reading through the DP Guide I find an interesting fact or piece of trivia about a game or system on every one of it's over 500 pages. Reviews, rarity, prices, check boxes for collectors and many (B&W) photos of games and screen shots from games you're likely never to find in the wild.

If you collect games, or are just interested in the history of home videogaming, I can't recommend this book strongly enough. A steal at [a really good price.]

I recently bought this & it is so cool, I had to buy a second one. I did that so I could keep one in the trunk of my car for when I go hunting for retro videogames @ thrift stores & garage sales...and the second copy stays in my house for reading on the pot & things. :P

This is the only book I've bought two copies of for myself so that says a lot about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you're into retro, this is for you, September 30, 2002
This review is from: Digital Press Video Game Collector's Guide (Paperback)
Got a machine that came out pre 1988? Then this is the guide book for you! Every major system (and plenty of minor ones) from the start of computing is detailed, along with guides to their software catalogs. Rarities and prices listed to give an indication on how much you should spend and to gauge value for a collectors view, not dealers or eBay.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate retrogaming collector's book - bar none, September 30, 2002
This review is from: Digital Press Video Game Collector's Guide (Paperback)
Quite simply the BEST book on the hobby of retrogaming available. Incredibly comprehensive, insightful, and useful - We use it constantly and we're videogame professionals. This book is so good that even though we have the 6th edition, we went ahead and ordered the new 7th edition and are eagerly awaiting it's arrival.

This is a fantastic piece of work that took a whole fleet of people endless hours to put together. There's a mess of information contained within that ought to keep even the speediest of readers busy for at least a week. Even if you don't like video games, this book will make you lust for an Atari system of your very own! 5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Classic Gaming Guide, September 29, 2002
By
Chris (Des Moines, IA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Digital Press Video Game Collector's Guide (Paperback)
If you're a collector of vintage video games, you owe it to yourself to get a copy of this book. It is the most thorough guide for 8-bit gaming platforms you're going to find. Inside you'll find various systems, from Atari through Nintendo, with complete U.S. & foreign cartridge & rarity listings. Many of the games are given a short review, and for the more discerning gamer, + or - signs are provided for games which are garnered either the best or the worst for each system.

Also included are system specs, hardware/non-cartridge listings, a cartridge/box/screenshot section, & gaming "lore" written by hardcore fans of the hobby. A must-buy!
