This review is from: .. 0.5x Digital Wide Angle Macro Professional Series Lens + DB ROTH Micro Fiber Cloth For The Canon VIXIA HF S10, HF S100 Flash Memory Camcorders (Electronics)
Initially I was skeptical about any lens that could cost $20, but I figured, even if it's a scam, I'm not out much.
The first thing that struck me was the weight of the thing. I have a traditional photo background, and I'm used to using cameras and optics that you could throw through a wall without damaging them. We're talking the old school 100% manual metal type cameras. Lenses for these suckers were HEAVY. If you've ever tried to save some money, you have probably encountered some cheap knock off lenses with plastic or some other alternative material making up the bulk of the product. This lens is totally metal and glass. Granted, this doesn't help your arm much if you're going hand-held, but I've found that even with the weight of a light, mic, and extra lens, the Canon HF S10 is still lighter than most pro model video cameras, or even consumer hand-helds from just a few years back. Also, if you've got a shoulder mount, or tripod, the weight doesn't really matter. When I pulled the lens out of the case and just looked through it, I knew that I had found a GREAT deal for the money. This lens is of a high quality manufacture with no visible distortions or defects. It operates as intended giving about 15-20% extra space on screen than the HF S10 alone. That's pretty much all I need. Only bad part is that it covers up the auto focus sensor. Still the camera is able to use the AF, without much difficulty. Additionally, coming from an old school background, I tend to use MF quite often, so either way it's not a big deal. All in all, I'd recommend that you give this lens a shot. You aren't going to find ANYTHING in this price range of this quality, and remember - it's only 20 bucks; you can barely eat a meal for that these days. Skip lunch, and try the lens. ;)

In short, I agree with G. Shaw: Holy cow.
As soon as the lens arrived I spun it onto my HF-S100 and tried a few shots indoors and out. It takes a second or two for focus to settle in. There is some lens flare when shooting outdoors, which is no surprise. If flare proves to be a problem, the lens has 62mm front threads; perhaps a hood is available. Reviewing footage on a 720p HDTV via the camcorder's HDMI out, I see no signs of chromatic aberration. Barrel distortion is noticeable, but after all it is a 0.5x wide angle. Focus and detail look great. Initial impressions: This is a really good deal, and I wonder if DB ROTH make a comparable telephoto :)

I am a professional photographer who uses Nikon gear. I recently purchased a Canon Vixia S200 in preparation for a "video vacation" in Hawaii. I decided that this lens was worth the gamble at the price I paid for it.
Holy smokes! I was impressed with both the macro and wide angle clarity of the lens. You can see a still shot, no post-processing, use the Canon Vixia S200 (Fine/max resolution on the camera settings)-->> (Copy/Paste URL to view picture) [...]
