Book Description

May 31, 1998
"Digital Property: Currency of the 21st Century" is everyone's guide to seeing information for what it is: a lucrative commodity. Every great product or service begins with an idea, and the value of this "invisible property" - once the province of lawyers specializing in the area - is now front-page news, as Bill Gates and major corporations acquire intellectual property at unheard-of pace. This timely book shows readers that their creative work -whether a photo, a painting, music, data, or a new game - is like money in the bank, and controlling its content means big profits.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

IN THE INFORMATION ECONOMY, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY IS MONEY IN THE BANK. More than likely, intellectual property will pay your rent by the year 2000. Bill Gates and corporate giants have been avidly buying it for years. Intellectual Property shows you why the shift from a manufacturing to an information economy has made this "invisible property" (also known as "content") so valuable. Whether it's ideas that launch great products or services, works of art, or some other form of data, this book shows you information for what it truly is: a lucrative commodity. This just-in-time guide is the first to tell individuals and businesses how to treat intellectual property as a real asset. Enjoyably readable, it will help you: Recognize intellectual property you already own; Legally protect your "invisible property";

Understand copyrights in the new media and in a borderless world; Market intellectual assets; Handle intellectual property issues in the workplace; Profit from IP investments; Find a career in intellectual property.

Written by one of North America's foremost intellectual property authorities, this book shows you how to benefit from understanding the currency of the 21st Century--and control it for big profits.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent work Lesley., November 16, 1999
This review is from: Digital Property: Currency of the 21st Century (Paperback)
I borrowed this book to read, but now I realise I have to buy a copy of my own. A good book to read and keep for reference. Intellectual property is a hot and popular subject in many corporations these days and also amongst artists, musicians, educators etc. We are all either on the distribution or receiving end of digital property. Lesley certainly knows what she is talking about, and she clarifies many issues such as protecting your IP, Digital Property and the Internet, Trademarks & Copyright etc. Digital Property is indisputably the currency of the 21st Century. It's our obligation to value it.

I just finished reading "Digital Property," and I think it's a terrific book. Clear and easy to read and reassuring to non-legal minds. I liked the humor in it. I sent a copy to my sister, a freelance writer who is constantly being pirated.

Lesley Harris has done what nobody has done before, a clear, concise analysis of what digital property is, and how to the average person can determine its value---and benefit from it in this new economy.

I hope she writes another book on a similar subject!
