Hey,
I've been using the Canon SD 990IS for almost a year now. It gives me a awesome photos for a point & shoot camera. Since of late, I've got the two "clip on" lenses, simply out of curiosity as well as wanting to experiment.
In my opinion, these are excellent for P&S use. The pro's & cons, to me, are;
0.45 WIDE ANGLE LENS
The macro/wide angle actually helps heaps in both situations/uses. However the drawback may be, is the the pincushion effect it creates.
On the widest angle setting, the barrel shape eats in to the image. i.e., the image shows the tell tale circular black patch as if viewing through a binocular. Note, it is only on the four corners.
Thirdly, there is some colour/hue change, which may be called chromatic aberration (I stand to corrected on technical terminology ;)). Note, this is not in huge proportions.
2.0 ZOOM LENS
In the wide angle setting, as said above the barrel view is shown. But then, it is not meant to be used in that setting. It makes a world of a difference to the limited 3x zoom the camera has.
Again, the colour/hue change is visible, though not in huge distortions.
All in all, I give it 4stars.
