5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand with lots of information
This is a great book that comes to cover a void between too technical books that are addressed to experts and too simple books that have almost zero content. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone that is curious about their home entertainment unit, and also to anyone that is interested in improving their experience using all the available options...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very interesting.
I made the switch. Bite me Comcast! I went satellite!!

I did not know what I was getting into, but I knew that I was going to switch to satellite. From what research I did on my own as well as experienced opinions of personal friends, I knew that it was probably the better option for our home. I purchased the book "Digital Television blah blah blah blah...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative and a great read, August 8, 2008
This review is from: Digital Television At Home: Satellite, Cable And Over-The-Air: Using, Controlling And Understanding Digital Tv Technologies. (Paperback)
Having no background on TV technology whatsoever, I found this book not only very informative, but also surprisingly easy to read, even with my complete lack of knowledge on the field. It's a must read for anyone who wants to know the finer details of television technology. With the mandatory change to digital TV less than six months away in North America, this book is now doubly useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book of this type I've ever seen, June 7, 2008
This review is from: Digital Television At Home: Satellite, Cable And Over-The-Air: Using, Controlling And Understanding Digital Tv Technologies. (Paperback)
It's comprehensive and written so that even someone new to the field can understand. The author clearly has a passion for the subject which he wants to share with his readers.

Given that we're all switching to digital TV in the next few years, this book should be considered a "must read" for anyone who wants to feel comfortable with all the new technologies available to them.

I bought this book for a friend who bought a new HD TV and became interested in how and why digital broadcasting works the way it does. He is a techno-nerd, so I would suggest this book only if you have a good basic understanding of electronics. He said it was the best book he could have gotten to begin his exploration of the subject. I would highly recommend this for someone who has a lively curiousity about digital broadcasting and wants to introduce it properly into the home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of info, August 5, 2008
This review is from: Digital Television At Home: Satellite, Cable And Over-The-Air: Using, Controlling And Understanding Digital Tv Technologies. (Paperback)
The book lots of detailed information and I found it pretty easy to read. Of the the details on how TV IRD's work was stuff I had wondered about, and I was happy to finally get some details.

There is a chapter in the middle that is really for super-technical hacker types, but otherwise most the the stuff was understandable. I don't have cable, so I skipped the chapter that only talks about that. I used the buying guide at the end recently to help buy a new receiver.

From what research I did on my own as well as experienced opinions of personal friends, I knew that it was probably the better option for our home. I purchased the book "Digital Television blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah the-Air" hoping for an upbeat introduction to the new technology and maybe some tips on useful accessories etc.

Blah.

The book totally does not hold my attention.

Dudek is probably still a teacher somewhere at a trade school or maybe even a college. His students may find this book handy as a study guide, but it is not a consumer oriented book. Dedek may be an unmatched expert at this stuff, but the book reads like a study guide for a course that is completed in one semester.
