I read the other review and as a result bought this thermometer. But when we used it there was always inconsistancies. You can take a reading one after another and they would differ by up to five degrees! So when my nephew was sick we didn't know if he had a fever or not because the readings kept coming back different. It does have a cute bag and is nice that you don't have to have the ear probe covers, but is not worth it. Also the directions aren't very helpful. We took it back and bought the Braun and have been very happy with it. It has excellent directions and a trouble shooting guide and help line number.

This thermometer works great for the whole family, it really does read your temp in 1 second! If i try it in the other ear, it gives the exact same reading! A lot of things people complained about with other ear thermomoeters I have not encountered with this one. However my baby is not born yet so I can see it might be challenging to get it in the correct position in a tiny ear. I did not buy one with my first baby because the technology was kindof new on the market and there were a lot of bad reviews and they were more expensive then. It works great on my 4 year old and my husband and myself. It does not require probe covers which is a great money saver, I just use alcohol wipes that come individually wrapped (by Curad)$2.99 for 200. There are some cheaper ones on the market but even the $40+ ones have an average rating of 2 or 3 stars and people still have many negative things to say about them.

I love that it doesn't require probe covers, i have box of alcohol swabs (by Curad), which are very inexpensive and they work great for cleaning the probe after every use. Also this is very small and lightweight and it really does read the temp in 1 second. You need to follow the directions because when I first tried it, it said 101 and then I looked at the directions again and tried again and got a normal reading, you need to press the button, insert in the ear, then release the button while its in the ear, its done in an instant. my 4 year old thinks its very neat and asked for her temp to be taken as soon as she saw it, but I really bought it for the baby on the way, and I tried it on myself, its really great for the whole family especially babies as my old thermometer seemed to take forever to get done and when your kid is sick and squirmy you end up having to start over sometimes. I don't know how the performance compares to other ear scanning devices, I never bought one before because they all seemed to have bad reviews, they sounded difficult to operate correctly and required probe covers. But I would definately reccomend trying it out when your child isn't sick to make sure its accurate and you get the hang of it before you really need it.
