Editorial Reviews

After conquering the rest of the world
with chart-topping albums and soldout
tours, Finland s HIM won over the
States with its 2005 U.S. debut, the Top
20 Dark Light, the first album by a
Finnish band to go U.S. gold. In 2007,
Venus Doom elevated the band s
summer-of-love-gone-goth to even
harder and heavier heights and the
album debuted #12 in the U.S. Now the
new CD+DVD package featuring a 90-
minute 2007 concert from the
Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles that
includes selections from Venus Doom,
Dark Light and previous releases,
plus music videos, shorts, band interviews,
fan contest videos and other
bonuses brings the HIM concert
experience and more to an ever growing
legion of fans everywhere

I've watched a lot of concert DVD's, and have been to a lot of live shows. But this DVD really recorded one of the best, most well produced concerts I have ever seen. If you are a HIM fan, this is one of the best purchases you can make. The venue was gorgeous, the songs were some of their best across several albums, and even included my favorite, "Sleepwalking Past Hope". There are some funny moments, many great guitar solos, and basically all the best of HIM. There is also a lovely bonus in the form of a fairly long interview with Ville, and some neat fan features.

If you've never seen HIM live before, this is about as good a taste as you can get without going. Like I said, you won't be sorry if you buy this. It even includes an Audio CD so that you can take the music with you, off the dvd player.

So many bands today sound great after the producers get done polishing their sound and then sound horrible live. HIM is the exception to that. They sound just as amazing live as they do recorded. The dvd and cd are both awesome and well worth the money. Bands like this are what the music industry desperately needs: talented performers, not just a really good producer!!!

Recorded at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, during the tour to support the Venus Doom album, the songs featured here are a strong representation of the HIM's catalogue. The playing here is tight, making for some truly wonderful recordings. Valo's voice is in fine form, sounding almost as good on the stage as he does in the studio (which is rather amazing, considering that he chain smokes throughout the concert). While Valo is the dynamic face of the band, and a charasmatic frontman without a doubt, the other members of HIM also demonstrate their ability to be sharp, precise musicians in a live setting. While they aren't slaves to the exact arrangements of the studio recordings, most of these tracks don't veer too far afield of their original versions. Still, the few times they do deviate, it takes the tunes to a new level, offering a fresh take.

Of course, the real gem for HIM fans is the DVD. The concert itself is actually an amalgam of two different nights played at the Orpheum (November 14 and 15 of 2007, for you trivia buffs), but the action here is seamless. You'd be hard pressed to tell what songs were recorded on what nights, and ultimately...who cares? Meiert Avis's direction brings a lush look to the proceedings, highlighting the beauty of the Orpheum itself (I've personally never set foot in this building, but I was impressed with the stunning look of the theater). While Valo is the focal point, naturally, the band is highlighted as well. They function well as a unit, and there is a sense that the band members have a strong camaraderie between them. The DVD has the advantage of not being limited to the time restraints of a CD, so the extra tracks of "Right Here In My Arms" and "VDO (Venus Doom Outro)" are included.

The Digital Versatile Doom CD/DVD was amazing! For fans that love the heavier side of HIM, the DVD satisfies the craving for a more rough and edgier sound. But all HIM fans will enjoy the way that the classic HIM songs are sprinkled into the mix. I actually loved listening to the cd because I was able to focus more on the music versus being distracted by looking at Ville on the DVD! Overall, the Digital Versatile Doom definitely delivers for those who love this band as I do! Buy your copy today!

Valo and company really deliver on this album. The video is shot amazingly and the background on the stage really brings the show to an exclamation. The lights shine on the crowd and stage and bring an illuminescent feel to the show. With classics such as Funeral Of Hearts, Wicked Game, and Soul On Fire, their older songs show as much strength and power as newer ones like Passion's Killing Floor and Vampire Heart. Its great that the CD sounds like the DVD, and is a must have for any HIM fan.

I really love watching this DVD. I was at their live show in November 2007, in Houston. Watching this live DVD is like being at the show all over again. Wonderful interviews and fan pics included. I have been fortunate enough to meet the fellas in this band and I wish I would have submitted my own pictures taken with them. This DVD is a must for any HIM fan.
