5.0 out of 5 stars Feature Filled Fantastic MP3 Player., August 9, 2003

This review is from: Digitalway MPIO FD100 256 MB MP3 Player (Electronics)
I have purchased other products from digital way and I have always been happy with them. This one was no different. I liked this one so much I bought one for my brother and my dad. The size is phenomenal! Tiny, slick, beautiful little machine. This player is loaded with features but because of its very small size many of the functions are built into the same buttons. This can be a little confusing for the "not so technically minded." The product manuals (entertaining as they are) are poorly written in broken English, so that can be a pain. However, I had no trouble figuring it all out without the manual. It all seemed very natural to me. It plays music very well. I had no trouble with my MP3's like another user said. The digital recorder works great! I used it to record an entire business conference that lasted 6 hours. It is also louder than other players I have owned. Over all this is a great player. I strongly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Aesthetically beautiful, operationally mediocre, August 4, 2003
This review is from: Digitalway MPIO FD100 256 MB MP3 Player (Electronics)
I wanted an MP3 player with a remote and a good set of headphones. This seemed to fit the bill, and reviews for other Digitalway products seemed to ensure I would be happy with my purchase, even if no one had reviewed this yet.

As with other Digitalway manuals, the instructions have no basis in the English language. I know the company is not based in the US, but they have offices in the US, and COULD have rewritten them. This made troubleshooting the player more troublesome. :-(

The size and weight ARE remarkable and the design IS beautiful and "Apple-sque". However, the small size means that many of the buttons have dual functions, and are therefore navigationally tempermental.

For example, in the MP3 mode, to change the Equalizer setting, one needs to access the Power menu (hold the "joystick" down for long [yes ... that's their broken English instructions], then press the "F" button shortly [sigh]). This more often than not brough me back to the FM mode (since pressing the F button for LONG does that).

Also, the sound quality was great on some tracks, woeful on others. Guitar riffs which sounded fine on my PC and CD player were barely audible on the Digitalway, and the headphone/remote connection, though gold-plated, seemed too easy to drop out the "stereo" sound.

I'm hoping for better luck with the FL100.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovable gadget, November 22, 2003

This review is from: Digitalway MPIO FD100 256 MB MP3 Player (Electronics)
I was looking for a good looking, not-too-big not-too-small mp3 player with upgradable memory and most importantly, good sound quality. This player had both, plus plenty of features. Despite it being small and light, really does feel solid and rugged with a nice metallic front.
The player really does run for 24 hours from one AA alkaline battery as it claims, and I got even more from rechargeable 1850mah energiser nimh batteries.
The remote is great, though the joystick is a little fiddly and sensitive, but still felt rugged.
One thing that I felt was missing from the player was the ability to encode directly from an external source.
Overall though I love it and I'l probably buy from MPIO again, though some of the Iriver players look pretty attractive too.
