Book Description

March 3, 2008
Stephanie Heuer was inspired to create the Somebody/Nobody books (now Dignity Rocks) after meeting and reading the work of Dr. Robert Fuller (author of , All Rise, The Politics of Dignity). Through his insights, inspiration, and dedication to the somebody/nobody concept, Stephanie created a book that is applicable for opening up discussions of dignity, self-respect, and other sometimes difficult topics to express for children. It gives children a safe and healthy voice to express their world, their conflicts, and how they interact with those around them.

This book is written by kids for kids. Students from many classes at different schools were asked to complete the following statements:

  • I Feel like nobody when.
  • I Feel like somebody when.
The responses you read in this book are what the kids had to say about that feeling we get when we are not included, alienated, bullied, not listened too, or simply ignored. It also says allot about how complete and great we feel when people recognize our efforts, listen to our stories, and show their concern for our well being.

This book is for everyone, old, young, teachers, parents, kids, friends, everyone. Make your own Somebody/Nobody book and let us know how it opens up discussions on dignity in your world.

Dignity matters! Dignity counts, in all of us. Our organization Dignity Rocks! is dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and protection of everyone's dignity, and we mean everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Dignity for all!", April 21, 2008
This review is from: Dignity Rocks!: I Feel Like Nobody When... I Feel Like Somebody When (Paperback)
Stephanie Heuer has brought together a language for leaders to stop, read, seek to understand, be proactive and discuss with others and strive to develop strategies to make change for children and their development. These children voice their life experiences in this book and share their most intimate thoughts about people that influence and support them. - AMAZING!

No child should live a shame-based life..."I feel like nobody when". Every child should be allowed to "feel like somebody when" - always! Kudos to Stephanie for the miles, trials and success that have occured and will come from nature and intent of this book. Lori Harris - Acorn Development

5.0 out of 5 stars No one is really a nobody; everyone is really a somebody, April 7, 2008
By
This review is from: Dignity Rocks!: I Feel Like Nobody When... I Feel Like Somebody When (Paperback)
As a teacher in the San Jose public schools, Stephanie Heuer had the inspiration to ask her students to complete the sentences, "I feel like a nobody when ..." and "I feel like a somebody when ..." What her students (typically third graders) wrote will astonish you and move you, and if you're like me, remind you of what indignity and dignity feel like. Shame and humiliation have no place in our schools, and Ms. Heuer's inspired exercise helped her students understand that. What's more, they learned it in the best possible way: from each other. Now her work is spreading across America and around the world. This book is worth its weight in gold--the "color" of our priceless human dignity.
