5.0 out of 5 stars You can't beat the name, but you sure can buy the album!
There is still hope for pop and rock music from Spain! La Oreja de Van Gogh, though fresh out of college, sound as smooth as if they had been playing together for years. 3.0 out of 5 stars honest
I don't like tracks 5,7,9 but i think the lead singers voice sounds good on this compared to other albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't beat the name, but you sure can buy the album!, September 11, 2000

There is still hope for pop and rock music from Spain! La Oreja de Van Gogh, though fresh out of college, sound as smooth as if they had been playing together for years. This quintet from San Sebastian, Spain exhibit the raw talent and the drive to become hugely successful in Latin pop/rock, and their first album will prove very difficult for them to top! Amaia, the lead singer, has a voice exquisitely suited to both harder-edged rock songs and the softer side of pop, and the band manages to blend both sounds perfectly in amazing songs like "El 28" and "La estrella y la luna". Their lyrics are both simple and meaningful, definitely not bubble-gum pop by any stretch, and also extremely catchy. I am very excited to hear the sound of this new group from northern Spain, and I hope their influence becomes more widespread throughout the Spanish music world. Can't wait to hear their second album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tell me, what can I ask for?, October 30, 2001

That's what Amaia claims in "Que puedo pedir" and it seems to be true for the album. What else can we ask for? We've got a powerful voice, great musicians, amazing lyrics and an outstanding debut album.

My personal highlights are "Pesadilla" (mesmerizing!), "Que puedo pedir", "Dile al sol" and their first hit, "El 28". Then again, if you like La Oreja, you must also get their 2nd album EL VIAJE DE COPPERPOT.

It's a shame that bands such as La Oreja and Mecano are not famous worlwide just because of the language limitations.

5.0 out of 5 stars pure pop bliss, September 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Dile Al Sol (Audio CD)
i was in madrid for spring break this march, and saw this album EVERYWHERE so i picked it up, and i can not stop listening to it. it is just one of the best pop albums i have ever bought...period. the vocals and melodies of the lead singer are fabulous. i can listen to this album through and through...songs like EL 28, CUENTAME AL OIDO, DILE AL SOL, PESADILLA...are all fabulous. If you're wondering who they sound like, their music is somewhere along the lines of Duncan Dhu but more upbeat, not as dark.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, October 18, 2001

Oreja de Van Gogh really's beyond comparison. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys imports as much as I do. Its really a mix of pop, rock, ska, raggae, electronica, and ballads. I got this CD thinking it would have the song "Cuidate" in it, without even checking on the back, but I wasn't disappointed when I realized it was the wrong CD. "Cuentame al Oido" is simply mesmorizing, and "Viejo Cuento" and "Dile Al Sol" are really cool too. Listen to the entire CD..it's good for a variety of moods. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars El mejor álbum debú de un grupo español, July 4, 2001

I USUALLY LISTEN TO DANCE MUSIC BUT THIS CD IS GREAT. THE SONGS ARE CATCHY AND I NEVER GET TIRED OF IT. I LOVE CUENTA ME AL OIDO, IT IS SO RELAXING AND A NICE SONG TO HEAR WHEN YOU ARE STRESSED. THEY REALLY KNOW HOW TO PLAY AND I DEFINATELY HAVE TO SAY THAT GIRL CAN SING.

I understand very little Spanish, but this album has become one of my all time favorites. I have to stop myself from listening to it too much. This girl has a fantastic voice.

This album is THE BEST that I have ever bought. A boyfriend from Spain came to visit two weeks ago, and he recorded some songs of Van Gogh's for me, and I listened, and instantly me enamoró. I speak Spanish, and I am sooooo pleased that I can have this album. I would advise those hesitating to buy it, BUY IT NOW! It is worth your money, definitely.

This group has some catchy lyrics and tunes that teenagers seem to enjoy. I teach Spanish and use 3-4 tunes with my classes.

Several really good songs. This group was interesting from the start. Good vocals, excellent instrumentation, and good rocking clasical based melodies.
