A Virtuoso Transcription, December 5, 2007

Dilermando Reis was a great Brazilian guitarist and composer. From the 40s to 70s, he recorded several LPs of his and other composer's works. Here in this CD, digitally remastered from the 1972 LP of the same name, Dilermando Reis paid tribute to another of his countryman, Pixinguinha - a composer and virtuoso saxophonist. He chose some of Pixinguinha's most popular compositions, transcribed them to the guitar, and made a virtouso rendition of them. The music is beautiful and the guitar performance great. My only discomfort is that the guitar sounded metallic perhaps, from use of steel strings probably before nylon strings became standard. This CD is for fans of and people interested in Dilermando Reis and Brazilian music.
