As a HUGE fan of J Dilla who has not only been a listener but performed at many memorials to him since his passing, I can honestly say I'm excited at any new release of his music. When I saw this project I assumed it was filled with tracks from the now legendary (to me anyway) storage locker of beats that were returned to Ma Dukes. It starts with "Birthright" which is a great beat that sours with a vocal sample that almost screams out to the listener. From there though the beats are a mix of tracks I've heard before which would be fine if they were featuring some MC's I'd be interested in hearing rhyme over them. Instead there are a couple with rappers I don't even recognize and aren't credited on the tracklisting and beats that I first heard YEARS ago from the old beat tapes that Dilla floated on the 'net himself. In fact I personally did a freestyle the beat that, on this release, is called "Rebirth is Necessary" WAY back in '06. So there's that. I bought it blindly out of support. I won't do that again but I still have no problem supporting Yancey Media Group LLC if the money goes back to Ma Dukes. I just want her to get a better executive producer to put these things together.
