5.0 out of 5 stars The Dillinger Escape Plan.
This re-release is just as great as the original, except it had 3 added bonuses to it. After the end of the amazing debut EP from New Jersey's finest there are three live tracks from later material. If you've ever listened to DEP before (and enjoyed their music) you know just how great this CD will be and is. If you haven't had the pleasure of listening to DEP before,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Im not sure about this one
Ok, this is not DEPs best album!
It may even be so, that it's problably the least good.
But only a COMPLETE MORON would give it one star and
call them bad songwriters.
The other albums are superb, if you don't have them
already, check them up before you go for this one.

If you've ever listened to DEP before (and enjoyed their music) you know just how great this CD will be and is. If you haven't had the pleasure of listening to DEP before, whenever you get the chance to. Do it! You will find one of the most talented bands EVER playing some of the most hardest, heaviest, and technically chaotic music ever. This hardcore/metalcore jazz fusion band has it all. This is a great buy for metal and hardcore fans alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars How can this CD not be given 5 stars?, August 12, 2004
This review is from: The Dillinger Escape Plan (Audio CD)
the people who ve said that DEP "are not technical" "sound like crapcore" etc. are obviously dont understand the complex time signatures and shifts that DEP use in their composiitons! DEP are by far one of the most technical bands out there right now!
and defninitely one of the best (if not THE best) hardcore/metalcore bands ever!

it is obvious that nikkie, nico, and the anonymous music fan who claims that DEP "sux" arent musicians themselves (or atleast not GOOD ones)!
and the thing that is MOST obvious is the fact that they have the collective IQ of a fossilized turd!

tho not DEP's best (best=clac. infinity) this cd is definitely one of the best hardcore releases and definitely desereves 5 stars! new DEP listeners should buy this album second after buying calulating infinity!

5.0 out of 5 stars Precision + Brutality - Amazing band debut!!!!, May 5, 2004
This review is from: The Dillinger Escape Plan (Audio CD)
First of all, responding to the kids who reviewed this release and gave it one or two stars (this is not a flame post):

This is an EP not an LP (I hope you guys know the differences here). This release shows the obvious band's quality trying to discover their own style and succeeding on doing it. Don't expect something like Calculating Infinity which is their first album. Music here is crude and sound quality is not so good if you look at it as demo. How many bands you know can put up a demo like this one? For the reasons I mentioned, giving it one star is just plain stupid. It's just hating the band because people is saying how amazing it is. Listen to Metallica instead.

To the rest of the people: I can't say much about the sound. There are no words enough to describe the joy of listening to DEP. There is a balance between precise and brutal. The vocals are insane and show the animal part of the band. The rest of the band shows the exact opposite: a well-structured noise with mathematical precision. This balance adds a lot to their music and you'll feel like you have never heard anything like it. It's really difficult to understand some parts of the songs due to the complexity and the speed and all of the songs require repeated plays except for "Proceed With Caution" which is more like an introduction. Dillinger Escape Plan is definitelly not easy listenable at first. It's like jazz: once you get used to it you can even sing along.

But a friendly warning: DEP is not for everyone. Try listening to this site's samples before thinking about purchasing this EP. A must have for fans of non-commercial hardcore/metal bands! And for those who seek bands with talented drummers. Over the top!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, November 25, 2004

As with every dillinger release, this ep seems to be masted perfectly, every scrrech to every harmonic. these guys aren't for everyone thats for sure, but this album is more of a 4/4 regular timing basis than any of their other releases. not too many weird, offtiming signautres. i recommende this to any fans of hardcore, metalcore, metal or anyone looking for something diffrent

this by far isn't Dillinger's greatest release. But if any of you don't consiter their full length Calculating Infinity to be one of, if not the best hardcore/metal album at all time, than you have some serious problems. Of course DEP is not for everybody. They are much faster, heavier, more technical and pissed off than your everyday hardcore bands like Atreyu, Poison the Well, Recover, and From Autumn to Ashes. Don't get me wrong, they are all great bands, but DEP is something else. You will either hate it or love it. but dillinger has several things you could look for, amazing drumming, pissed off (screaming only) vocals, and amazing guitars (i'd be very suprised if anyone who says dillinger's guitars are crap could actually back it up by playing anything better)

in a nutshell, i would recommend anything by DEP, but if you havent heard anything by DEP, please get Calculating Infinity instead.

buy dillinger, slam to dillinger. shut up.

Nikki, nico, and others. Who does it better? Meshuggah, slipknot?... dillenger is Juliard trained in classical guitar. Find me a better jazz/grindcore fusion metal band and I might respect your unfounded opinions.

aite, to the 2 narrow minded idiots that love label naming heres an idea, to understand this particular brand of so called "post emo/ screamo/ hardcore/ metal grindwhat the hell ever bogus label you can come up with to sound like ur some kind of music aficianado"....you must take time and listen PAST the chaos. it is some of the most insane musicianship ive heard in this generation. id suggest you both jus take it easy, give it a day in court, and LISTEN TO EVERY NOTE THEY HIT....and dont hit. n if that dont work, then hey, it aint for you. but i for one love this band. the complexities are undeniable.
and thats whats up

This is what he'd sound like.

This is not your daddy's "heavy metal" and is NOT for eveyrone. Proceed with caution and if they appeal to you you will be astonished.

I just saw them live and they can actually pull it off onstage.
