Daz Kurupt,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Dillinger & Young Gotti 2: Tha Saga Continuez (Audio CD)
It is great to hear from these two artists again. They had their problems but not that is over with and they are back to making albums again. They have been in the game for a long time and know how to please westcoast fans like myself and I am happy with this release but I see somebody giving this album 2 stars which is rediculous cause every album they put out was banging so to that guy go listen to 5-0 cent stop hating on the real gangstas. Recommend real rap fans buy this album.

I love Tha Dogg Pound, but all I can say is, it's a shame they spent their last few good years beefing. If they stepped up their maturity levels around 2002-2003 they could'ce made 1 last quality album. But if you're a fan, you still gotta pick this up.

It's easy to say that Daz & Kurupt are better served as a duo rather than individual solo artists although both have reaped success as solo artists. Daz has had success as an underground king releasing so many albums it's hard for anyone to keep track while Kurupt had more success in the mainstream world. While both of them have released good to great albums since their split it is undeniable that they work magic while together.
Dillinger & Young Gotti II: The Saga Continues follows their underground classic released in 2001 and follows suit very nicely. Daz & Kurupt each seem like they are trying to feel each other out again on these tracks as they've been away for a while and since their breakup a lot has changed. They both drop great lyrical performances but the chemistry is sorta lacking (I'm sure Cali is Active will recapture the chemistry). The production, mostly handled by Daz Dillinger & Ivan Johnson, is hit & miss but the hits really recapture the Dogg Pound feel. Songs such as U Remind Me, Hittin Donuts In The Street, Say It, I Luv When U, and Ride & Creep are all great vintage DPG tracks worthy of praise. However, the miss tracks really don't cut it. Songs such as DPGC Muzic, We Gitt, Make Me A Believer, and Say It just aren't very good. Undoubtedly the best song on this album is HITTIN DONUTS IN THE STREET as it takes you back to when Dogg Pound and the west coast were on top of the world. This album is decent and should be picked up if you are a fan of the duo. Others may want to wait till the major release of Cali Iz Active on June 27, 2006. 3.5 stars.

Stll the same D.P.G. --Good Album,
This review is from: Dillinger & Young Gotti 2: Tha Saga Continuez (Audio CD)
D.P.G. Dillinger II Young Gotti Tha Saga Continuez is the latest offering from Daz and Kurrupt. In the 90's they recorded as the Dogg Pound but now they are recording under the name D.P.G. This album is sure to please fans old and new. The disc features 14 brand new songs from Daz and Kurrupt. Daz and Kurrupt still make the magic they did in the 90's. The album opens up real gangsta--gunshots and all. The production on the album is real fly and songs "Say It," "We Gitt," and "U Remind Me," would probably be mainstream hits in a less commercial dominated radio industry. Daz and Kurrupt basically cover their regular themes on this release-getting high, riding out, gangsta sh*t, and women. "Make Me A Believer" is another one of those extra nasty songs reminiscent of N.W.A.'s "She Swallowed It." The song "I Luv When U," is a relationship song. Newcomer Men-Nefer offers up vocals on this track and several others. She has a really great voice.
Dazz and Kurrupt seem quite Cryp'ed out on the album interior art as on the inside they both are seen wearing blue bandana's and the CD itself features a blue bandana as part of the cover art. The interior artwork also includes several pictures of Daz and Kurrupt with Snoop Dogg. Snoop doesn't make an appearance on the album. The only featured artist outside of Men-Nefer is D-Sharp. Bishop Magic Don Juan makes an un-credited appearance at the opening of the song "Push Back."

DPG MUZIC,
By
This review is from: Dillinger & Young Gotti 2: Tha Saga Continuez (Audio CD)
D.P.G.
DILLINGER & YOUNG GOTTI 2 THA SAGA CONTINUEZ When Daz and Kurupt reunited after Kurupt left Tha Row west coast hip hop fans rejoiced all over and were awaiting the release of the first album the two put out back together. 1.INTRO 2.DPGC MUZIC-the first song on the album is a banger for sure and really gets you excited about this album, this is the first single. This is the perfect song to showcase these two back together. Daz and Ivan Johnson created a really hard beat that fits the Pound perfectly and will have your head nodding. Daz sounds get over this beat but Kurupt kills this track and he sounds energized about being back with Daz, as does Daz about Kurupt.5/5 3.BLAST EM SKIT 4.CUZ I'M A GANGSTA-DJ Xtra Large produced this slow pounding production that seems like it would have been right at home on the first DPG album. Kurupt destroys this track easily and delivers with some nice battle inspired lyrics, and Daz sounds great on the hook. Of course verse wise Daz lays down that distinctive flow of his we all know and love, in fact lyrically he steps it up in this one.5/5 5.HITTIN' DONUTZ IN THA STREETZ-Ivan Johnson and Daz return to drop one of the smoothest instrumentals ever, very pleasing to the ears. The hook for this song is just as smooth and very catchy. Both Daz and Kurupt sound excellent over this beat, Kurupt adjusts his flow to fit it and this type of beat is right up Daz's ally. Great song, classic.5/5 6.SAY IT-the same production team returns to drop another radio friendly smooth catchy beat, and succeed in creating another hit. In fact this is one of if not my favorite songs on the album. The hook for this song is extremely catchy and all of the verses are just that as well. This would have been the perfect single for the album, and with a video could have been huge in my opinion. Both Kurupt and Daz sound great on this song, I love Kurupt's flow on this song.5/5 7.WE GITT-the same production team three times in a row and once again succeed in crafting something banging. This horn driven track is perfect for the Pound to blaze stuff to, although I feel this song is a little of a step down from the previous tracks. Still this is a good song and straight bumps.4/5 8.U REMIND ME-once again the same production team is in the house and along with Soopafly they create another well crafted production. The hook from Men-Nefer sounds great but a little off to me. Kurupt does his thing on this song as does Daz, another good song.4.5/5 9.MAKE ME A BELIEVER-Daz and Ivan create a nice piano and flute driven track that sounds like classic Dogg Pound. The hook for this song is great as well and fits the beat perfectly. Daz adjusts his flow on this track, and to me it is ok but not great. Kurupt's verse is good but if you listen to his verse it sounds like he wasn't even there to record it.4/5 10.I LUV WHEN U-this could have been a lovely single for this album, it revives 2pac's "Late Night" instrumental. Daz and Ivan recreated this and added a little extra feeling to it and brought forth a great instrumental. Kurupt sounds excellent on this track, and Daz sounds just as good. This reminds me of the song "Feels Good" off of Daz's "RAW" album. The hook for this track sounds beautiful, the female singing sounds great. Should have been a single, the video for this on the DPG DVD was great, looked cool outside in that snow.5/5 11.WHAT U GONE DO?-Daz and Ivan return to drop a more bass driven harder type track, in which they succeed. But it feels like it is missing something. Kurupt spits real well on this track, delivering some great verses. Daz does his thing on this track, and the hook is cool.4/5 12.PUSH BACC-LT Hutton provides an excellent production for this track that is perfect for The Dogg Pound. This is another one would have sounded right at home on the first DPG album. Kurupt kills this track and delivers with a great hook. Daz does his thing as well on this track, another good song.4.5/5 13.RIDE & CREEP-DJ Xtra Large returns and drops another banging track with this slow paced classic. And D-Sharp provides a cool hook for this song, and Daz even disses Guerilla Black in his verse. And of course Kurupt holds it down on this song. This is another classic track off of this album, great song.5/5 14.OUTRO [FEELS GOOD TO BE A DOGG POUND GANGSTA]-Daz and Ivan return to produce the final song on the album and have created another cool beat. This is a cool ending track, and Kurupt sounds right at home on this. Daz sounds great on this track and made a very cool sounding hook. Over all a good end to the album.4.5/5 This was a great album and it was great to have Kurupt and Daz back together.

5th album from tha Pound is pretty good,

This review is from: Dillinger & Young Gotti 2: Tha Saga Continuez (Audio CD)
3 years since the last DPG album and after a rather heated feud the DPG is Bacc -- Daz & Kurupt, Kurupt & Daz. Although I am glad they're bacc together and have a new album, this is probably my least favorite of the 5 Dogg Pound albums but still pretty good (tied with "Last of tha Pound" which also is a 4 star album). It has 12 new songs, and every song has Daz & Kurupt on it. Guests are minimal doing the hooks on 3 songs. It has 1 near classic, 1 or 2 I skip, 3 or 4 are ok, the other 6 are good. Production is nicely handled (as usual on an album with Daz), Daz & Ivan Johnson worked together on the majority of the songs, doing 8 of the 12, Daz & Soopafly did 1, DJ X-tra Large does 2 songs and LT hutton does 1. A good album for their fans to have but not near their best.
#2 - 9.5 (great upbeat song) #4 - 8(nice relaxing beat) #5 - 8.5 (another relaxing beat) #6 - 6 #7 - 4.5 #8 - 8 (f/ Men-Nefer -- good beat) #9 - 6.5 #10 - 7.5 (f/ Men-Nefer) #11 - 9 (tight beat) #12 - 7.5 #13 - 8.5 (nice beat -- f/ D-Sharp) #14 - 8 DAZ DILLINGER -- Delmar Arnaud -- b. 5/25/73 -- Long Beach, CA KURUPT -- Ricardo Jones -- b. 11/23/72 - b. ~A STEP BACK~,
This review is from: Dillinger & Young Gotti 2: Tha Saga Continuez (Audio CD)
Daz Nigga Daz & Kurupt the Kingpin are clearly gone. When you hear quality material like "Dogg Food" and then switch to this "Saga" CD... One has to wonder where the effort went?
It's always a treat to see Daz and Kurupt together doing stuff. They've accomplished a bit on solo projects and dualing on other albums. But this one was a rush-to-the-studio. Daz- has he changed this much? His talent levels have kept him bringing stylish beats in the past- very jazzy, funky with many instruments felt. That's all gone now..... Now it's bass, bass, bass with lost chorus direction and no style. Daz's delivery isn't even what it use to be. The pitch is very high all the time, even if the production doesn't call for it. Kurupt back in the studio on this one is nice. But we get a lost focus with so many destractions. And what's clearly missing is the other lineups- no Soopafly, Snoop, Nate, Mr. Malik, Bad Azz... so forth. I know, I know that DPGC album is coming out to reveal that all. Well Daz & Kurupt should've waited instead of damaging their album archive. Album had a couple of nice ones. Overall, not at the level of their capability...

Ima huge DPG fan and I can honestly say that this album is str8 garbage. No disrepsect to Daz but he really slipped up on this album with his flow and lyrics. Kurupt was average. Beats on here were terrible with exception of a few tracks. only good tracks are DPGC Music, Push Bacc. Rest are average or just suck. Wait 4 Cali Iz Active or just listen 2 Dogg Food 4 now. Dont get this album
