5.0 out of 5 stars Another great set of tunes from a great band...., May 13, 1998

What's good music? Something that makes you dance when you hate dancing...something that you hum when you're driving, or waiting in line,....great music. This band can also be heard in the movie "Double Happiness." If you find their cds, buy 'em! They're hard to find..... Couldn't recommend them more highly. Funny, smooth, and a nice mix of fast and slow.

I, like most, was exposed to Toronto's Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet from watching "Kids in the Hall". A great and often hilarious show with equally great music. What's great about this album is that it completely stands on its own.

I try not to describe this band as "surf", but one is immediately reminded of the Ventures, especially if you're not familiar with them from the show. They are "surf-like" at times but add so much more. So many more influences. You hear partial covers of Benny Goodman and Nancy Sinatra plus little audio samples of "Rocky and Bullwinkle" (a personal favorite).

Though I'm NOT Canadian, I grew up, and still live, near Detroit (across the river from Windsor, Ontario) and two-thirds of the change in my pocket, at any given time, IS Canadian. And because of that I feel qualified to say that if you like short, groovy little instrumentals made up of bass, drums, and reverb-laden guitar with the occasional substituting keyboard, this band is for you. There's close to 30 songs on this CD and I love every single one. I had this on vinyl for years and finally decided I had to have the disc. I couldn't stand mobilty interfering with my ability to listen to it..

1991

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Surf/Indie Rock, November 28, 2005

Along with Man or Astroman?, Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet released several outstanding indie instrumental albums in the 1990s. This is their second and probably best one, and still sounds great almost 15 years later. Fans of this band should also check out 'Fresh Gasoline' by Phono-Comb.

Anyone who is a fan of great Instrumental surf, lounge, or "spy" music must pick this up. This album makes great background music to conduct your own secret covert spy missions to. The performances here are one of a kind!!! You owe it to yourself to check this one out!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Whooping crazy happy spazzy Five Stars O' fun!, October 15, 1998

A very upbeat recording from a bunch of happenin' Canadians. A must have to add to your collections! An added bonus? Not many people know their groovy style so they are relitivly CHEEP! Also look for their (first?) one "Savvy Show Stoppers!" or try the Barenaked Ladies (Gordon) or Moxy Fruvous (Bargainville) for other upbeat canadian tunes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grab a beer and fire up the grill!, March 31, 2006

I've owned this CD for a couple of years and I don't listen to it much, but I played it a few days ago and I was immediately transported to a wooden deck by a house with a gas grill cooking burgers and I had a beer in my hand thinking about how good life it.

This kind of music just sets a kind of mood, and whatever that mood is depends on your imagination, but I'll bet you imagine something in the Summer that is fun or relaxing. I love this stuff.
