4.0 out of 5 stars She's got ANOTHER hit!!!
Tracy Brown definitely has a bestseller with this book. I liked it MUCH better than "BLACK", which was her 1st Essence bestseller. This work is skillfully written about 4 stylists who work in an upbeat styling salon. While reading this book, I felt as though I was reading the female version of Ice Cube's "Barbershop"...This book is worth the purchase for the wolf tickets...

The story was about four women who worked in the hair salon Dime Piece and they all have the hots for a brother named Ishmael.

The owner, Celeste is involoved with Ishmael's best friend, Rah-lo but when he gets locked up she begins to second guess her relationship Rah-lo. Ishmael secretly likes Celeste but he wants to remain loyal to his best friend.

Charly the drama queen is used to getting what she wants and will not stop until she gets Ishmael to herself.

Nina is tired of seeing everyone's happiness but her own. When Ishmael takes an interest in her, she is ready and eager to give love a chance.

Robin is the baby of the crew and can't see why all the women are in love with Ishmael, that is until she notices him checking her out.

This book was ok, it wasn't great and it wasn't a total waste. It kinda dragged along, I thought it would be the bomb because I read a previous book by the author that I really enjoyed. Better luck next time.

While reading this book, I felt as though I was reading the female version of Ice Cube's "Barbershop"...This book is worth the purchase for the wolf tickets alone. That's one way to know you are reading a good book. I howled as I read this book (while on an airflight). I know the other passengers must have thought I lost it; but this book got spontaneous reactions from me while reading. Note: if you want a good read, get this book! There could be a part 2, but I trust that the author will come with something fresh, and leave the sagas alone. Great job, Ms. Brown!

2.0 out of 5 stars Liked the Book., June 7, 2006
This was a pretty good book. I read the 1st 6 pages thanks to Amazon.com and bought it because of what I read and the explosive beginning. But the book fell down and let me down a little. I'd really like to read about careers that Black women have other than being hair stylists.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kept Me Entertained From Beginning To End, December 19, 2004
Dime Piece was a very good read. There was drama nonstop within this beauty salon and I'm sure many of us could relate to sitting in the salon for hours, hearing the gossip, talking about men, and catty envy between star stylists.

I liked how the story ended and give the book 4 stars instead of 5 because of editing. I know the authors must get sick of hearing it. One Triple Crown author (not this one) even had the nerve to actually mention in a recent collection of short stories that she was tired of hearing about the bad editing. Well do something about it!! Like it or not, editing reflects on the author's work. I understand that the author is not the editor but when we read these books you've already cosigned for your editor. There's no excuse for Charly being spelled "Charlie" over and over, or having a scene in the book where Ishmael was with Robin but then the editor messes up and puts Nina's name in the mix. Tighten up Triple Crown editors, you've gotten better but still have a long way to go if you want to be taken seriously.

3.0 out of 5 stars Typical Ghetto Book, December 24, 2005
By
The only reason I finished this book is because it was short. There didn't seem to be any plot or climax, it was just a story. Celeste (who is the mistress of a drug dealer) owns an salon and constantly allows unprofessional behavior between the hairstylists. I didn't see anything really exciting or attention-getting in this book. It was just an average ghetto story.

I wouldn't run out to my nearest bookstore in a frenzy to buy this book but it was pretty descent. I read it in 3 hours so if you're looking for a book with a little street appeal, a little drama and a love story all mixed in one, this is your book.

4.0 out of 5 stars DIME PIECES OR HATERS, February 22, 2006
IT WAS A GOOD READ AND EASY READ! IT TOOK ME ONE DAY TO READ IT! THE STORY PUT EMPHASIS ON THE KEPT WOMAN(CHICK ON THE SIDE), INSTEAD OF THE WIFE WHICH WAS A GOOD TWIST. I ENJOYED THE CHARACTER ISHMAEL THE MOST. I COULD SEE HOW ALL THE WOMEN AT DIME PIECE COULD FALL FOR HIM. THERE WAS NOT A LOT OF DEPTH IN THE STORY BUT A GOOD READ.
