Editorial Reviews

Review

"The project is thorough and comprehensive. There is a very logical flow of concepts and related calculation skills. The content is accurate and I have not found any errors."

"Student evaluations of this text have been consistently favorable. They like the straight-forward format with highlighting of key concepts [and] multiple opportunities to practice and receive feedback.... I do not get student complaints about this text. Many students keep this text for later review and reference."

"I think that it is the best in current use.... At the risk of sounding like a 'cheerleader' for the text, my respect and appreciation for the thought and hard work that has gone into its development has only deepened over time." - Anna Sanford, MSN, ARNP, BC, AOCN of Northern Michigan University

"I am very impressed with the text. It is well organized, contains what I consider the essential elements in medication calculations, [and] the photos are excellent. I like the text better than the one we are currently using and would definitely consider changing when the revision is published."

"I think the text is extremely well organized, complete, and easy to follow." - Marilyn C. Handley, RN, PhD, University of Alabama

"I REALLY like Curren's book. She has indeed given the subject matter appropriate enthusiasm and balance. Her writing is conversational and easy to follow. I like the overall presentation of each topic and the ability of the learner to master the content through exercises and self-tests.... I am strongly considering adopting this text as a background for these students. - Susan A. Bruce, PhD(c), RN, ANP, University of Buffalo

"The text has several strong points. The first is the clarity of the information. The author breaks down the process of dosage calculations into understandable terms and concepts. The second strength is the review of math. The math review not only reviews the essential skills needed to perform dosage calculations but also makes direct application of those math skills to dosage calculations.... I would consider adopting this book." - Mary Hibbert, RN, MS, Southern Nazarene University School of Nursing (OK)

"When I initially paged through the text I immediately wanted to adopt the text. . . . It was a pleasure to see a text that instructs the way I teach dimensional analysis based dosage calculations. There is now a text that supports my teaching! I have found that many nursing students have difficulty in dosage calculations and are leery of dimensional analysis because they did not know how to start the dosage calculation setup. The student is overwhelmed before ever beginning. By basing setup on the label that is in the final answer it becomes easy for the student to set up the problem and is almost like a game."

"[The] pictures are clear and easy to read. This makes it easy for the student to immediately start learning.... I also loved the practice problems using real syringes, IV bags, etc.... Looking forward to the book being available for adoption." - Lori Stutte, MSN, RN, Cardinal Stritch University (WI) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I love the CD-ROM that came with this book. It makes the whole dimensional analysis process easy to learn and understand. After the first few lessons, I understand how to calculate a dose and an IV infusion rate and I haven't even read much of the text. Maybe it's just how I learn, but I find the CD-ROM alone to be worth the price of the book. If you have insecurities about math, this is the way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, January 11, 2008
This book is a good book for those who want to learn drug dosage and do not have a strong background in Math. It has a comprehensive step-by-step review for the math that is needed to master the material. As someone whose weakness is math, I found the book to be an easy read and walked a way with a weath of knowledge...

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly devised text..., August 15, 2007
This review is from: Dimensional Analysis for Meds (Paperback)
I agree that one would reckon that 3 editions and in charging almost $80 for a text that is less than half an inch thick, Thompson could competently execute simple math operations. Next time, I will just run copies of a text for my partner and I, rather than pay for such a confounded and exploitative text.
