5.0 out of 5 stars Nice to have an outdoor living area
For two years we had a propane tabletop heater. When it was windy out the fire would go out, sometimes it took five minutes to get it lit at all. Overall we were looking for a change.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not So Hot
It's a great idea but since hot air rises you can't feel the heat unless you are close and there is no wind. It would be better if it had a fan but I guess that would not be practical for outdoor use. It does give off a lot of light.

For two years we had a propane tabletop heater. When it was windy out the fire would go out, sometimes it took five minutes to get it lit at all. Overall we were looking for a change.

We had bought a quartz heater for our sunroom and loved it. When we found this item on Amazon we decided to try it.

We love it. It is so easy to use. It's a completely different type of heat and it works. People love to come over and sit outside.

The only thing better would be a completely enclosed area with central heat and air.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works exactly as expected, January 1, 2011

This does exactly what we expected; add a little heat when we're sitting on our boat dock in the winter. Because it works on a household 120v outlet, it is limited by physics to 1500 watts. It's not going to give you the heat of a big propane patio heater, which produces approximately the equivalent of 12,000 watts of energy.

The construction is good, and the feature allowing you to snap it onto any pole is very nice. The switches are waterproof. The covers on the heating arms assure you can't burn yourself.

My husband and I purchased this heater for our patio. We just love it! It produces a lot of heat. You have the option of havine one side on, only two, or all three. It was easy to assemble too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best solution yet for outdoor dining heat!, June 20, 2011

We looked at stand up propane heaters, wall mounted electric heaters and in the end, thought we'd give this a try.

We've had it about 2 months and have used it at least 4 times during dinner with friends on our patio. It's absolutely amazing. While it won't heat a room or a large area, it's perfect for heating 6 people sitting at our outdoor dining table.

Pros:
1. It has 2 switches so 1, 2 or all 3 of the heating elements can be on. If someone is hot, we just switch off the heating element closest to them (Note: You cannot switch off all 3 individually. One switch controls 2 elements the other 1 element.)
2. It's compact and easy to store - stays on the pole right under the umbrella.
3. Provides great heat for roughly 6 people at our rectangular table.

Cons:
1. Requires an umbrella or umbrella pole (not a huge issue, but we didn't have one - incidentally, the umbrella being raised also helps hold the heat in).
2. You have to move it up and down the pole manually when you close/open the umbrella.

Obviously the cons are not that big of a deal to me as I gave it 5 stars. I would recommend this to friends/family and would buy another if we put a second table outside.

Used it four times and it was great. We can now use the patio more times when the temp is in the 50's.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wrong, November 10, 2011
This review is from: Dimplex PUH1500 Electric Radiant Parasol Patio Heater (Lawn & Patio)
To the person who wrote about adding a fan to the radiant heater, obviously, knows nothing about radiant heat. Radiant heat does not heat the air....it heats objects! It just irritates me when someone buys something and criticizes it because they haven't a clue to which they are commenting.

it works great for not cold but chilly evenings to sit around the table comfortably. however, it is inconvenient if you live in a windy area and need to close your umbrella, which you will need to remove the heater to roll it down. otherwise it is made of good material, looks good and works as expected.

4.0 out of 5 stars infared patio table heater, January 27, 2012

This review is from: Dimplex PUH1500 Electric Radiant Parasol Patio Heater (Lawn & Patio)
Apparently this item is sold under various names. We are on our 3rd unit due to one of three heating elements burning out on the first two that were replaced at no cost. Having said the negative this works very well. When you're sitting at your deck table the radiant heat projected directly down from above you is not unlike the heat you feel on your face when facing the sun. My wife and I are able to enjoy cocktails and/or dinner outside even when the ambient temperature is just 50-degrees. A bonus is, during the shorter daylight hours in winter, the heater also provides good lighting.

This does not work in 30 degree weather. It puts off very little heat and does not heat the individual as it claims.
