I am super sad over this game. I played the original and absolutely loved it. I couldn't wait for the release date on this one.
Everything seems very small and as the levels prgress and get harder, it gets increasingly frustrating to fulfill the tasks because everything is hard to see. It almost turns into a guessing game as to where to click to fulfill the tasks (mind you I do not have eyesight issues). My next complaint is the graphics are poor. I would have expected better, bolder graphics given it is the second version and made for the DS. As a matter of fact, I think the graphics are worse than the first. The graphics are like an old Nintendo game, maybe even worse. All said and done, I would not have wasted my money on it if I would have tried it first. Where usually I would be consumed by this kind of game over everything else in my life, I will probably just finish it out on blizzard and terrential rain days:(

I thought Diner Dash was fun but this game is so tiny you can't even see what the customers are asking for. My 9 year old nephew couldn't even see what customers were asking for. Played 3 levels and then traded the game in to Game Stop. Waste of time and money. DO NOT buy this game.

Should have called it Flo WHERE'D You Go...,

Take a good look at the screen shots before you buy. Did you notice that, unlike the first Diner Dash for the DS, you can now see the dining room AND the line of waiting customers without having to scroll over? Some people will be glad about this, but I am not one of them. First, I didn't mind having to do that with the first one, and second they had to make everything much smaller in order to fit it all on the screen. I'm not exactly old and I have good eyesight. I find this new perspective off-putting. Flo is so small I sometimes lose her. It is hard to see the colors in the chairs to match customers. When chaining, particularly when cleaning tables, it is hard to see the check marks that let me know that I have put that table in Flo's "to do" list. I will think that I have done it only to find a dirty table when I try to drag customers to it. The upgrades are unsatisfying. Every few levels you can pick an upgrade or you unlock some new clothing. I could care less about dressing Flo. You can't even tell what she's wearing on game screen because she's too small. And the upgrades to the restaurant are just choosing between a new counter, OR new tables, OR wall decorations, etc. I am emphasizing the "OR" because you don't get to choose between counters styles, or tables styles like usual. You can choose one or the other. And you will eventually get all of them anyway as far as I can tell so there's not much incentive there. Overall the game is more forgiving, at least in the first 15 levels or so, because you can lose tables and still score way beyond expert score. I hate to lose tables, but the alternative is to give up chaining, and ultimately chaining is worth more than a couple of tables. I hate to admit it, but I am disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I am not sorry I bought it. I will play it until I have an expert score on every level (which at this point does not seem like it's going to be very hard) but I don't know how quick I will be to play it again. This may not sound like a big deal but given that I have happily played the first one through 10 times over it makes me kind of sad.

I'm a big fan of the Cake Mania games so I thought I would try this one. I have the new DSi XL and thank goodness. The graphics are pretty awful on this game and I can't imagine trying to play on my old DS Lite. On the XL things are large enough to see, though still smaller than Cake Mania. The game play is much more difficult than I expected. Cake Mania is slow compared to the pace of this game. Granted I choose not to move onto the next level until I reach "Expert". Otherwise you can go through it a little more easily if you are just going for the "Goal".
The point of the game is to serve the customers as quickly as possible before they get upset. You want to keep their hearts as full to get the most points. There is a lot going on at one time in this game. No standing around bored like in Cake Mania. As the levels go up something new adds to the difficulty such as mopping up spills or smooching customers who gross out the others. You just constantly run around trying to keep up with everybody. You have to seat the customer, take their order, send their order, pick up their order, deliver it, possibly do some other task(mop, get dessert, deliver a high chair), give them their check, pick up the dishes, and put the dishes in the cart. Doing this with several tables at a time can get pretty hectic! It is kind of silly but I really like being able to change Flo's wardrobe. It just gives you a breather in between levels. If you have no interest in that part of the game you can skip by it easily. All in all I like this game. It is challenging but fun. Very addictive. Also, I highly recommend getting the DSi XL. It will make viewing all your games easier on your eyes. Totally worth it!

Harder, But Not In A Good Way,

The question when scanning reviews for Diner Dash 2 is: Will I want to play this game if I enjoyed Diner Dash One? I have played and beat both games - here is my opinion.
For one thing, this game is almost exactly the same as the first one - just more of it. If you simply want slightly different levels, this provides that. However, the images are a few percentages smaller than in the original release, making it difficult to navigate between tables (you can practically click more than one table with the stylus tip). A HUGE oversight is the absence of level-ups. Rather than earn speed or tools to help you along the way, you merely purchase a few cosmetic changes to your wardrobe and the diners. Another issue is the actual flow of the game. Selecting check points and directing your waitress has some flaws - not every touch of the stylus is detected and carried out in order as with the first game. Flo seems to stop in the middle of your directions, which can easily become frustrating. It is actually in this fallback that Diner Dash 2 provides more of a challenge - this sort of complication may not appeal to you. To summarize, it's much like the first version only trickier to get around and a bit harder to see.

I got this game, even after reading reviews about it being hard to see. I just recently bought the dsi xl, and have only been playing all my games on that, and have had no trouble at all seeing anything on this game. However, I don't understand how some people just fly thru the game. I been playing games since atari days, and these time management dash games are great, but they get really hard! I've been playing mine for weeks and still only in the 2nd "world" of this and Wedding Dash, both great games, and very addicting. I recommend, especially if you have a dsi xl.

I've been waiting for this game for a long time. I have the first one and love it very much. I am convinced that this new version will cause me to go blind. I can barely make out whats going on. I expected this version to be even better than the first, but I guess I was wrong. The graphics are horrible. Flo might as well be naked, because you can't see what she is wearing anyway.

Very disappointing. I also waited a long time for this game to come out. Absolutely loved the first Diner Dash. I was hooked on that game instantly and still play it constantly.
But I got bored with Diner Dash Flo on the go after the first few levels. Mainly due to the fact that I can't see what is going on. This game is giving me blurry vision. There is so much happening on the screen but everything is insanely small. The graphics are horrible. I think they tried to give the faces and guests more detail, but it didn't work. Cramming everything into one screen was also a mistake. The tables and guests waiting on line are now visible in one screen. This scrunched everything up real bad. The original Diner Dash had you toggle between the tables and guests who are online. That worked flawlessly. I could easily tell there were people waiting even when I was on the restaurant screen. I think they tried to improve the game, but it just didn't work. I hope the next version will improve on these issues.

I love the Diner Dash series, but this was very disappointing. The graphics were too difficult to work around which makes it almost impossible to move ahead to the next level.

I LOVED the original Diner Dash for the DS and couldn't wait to buy Flo on the Go. On the PLUS side....the music is fun to listen to.
The minuses.... 1. Everything is too small. You will probably miss a lot chain bonuses due to the fact that you THOUGHT you tapped on a table or a meal to deliver, but due to the size of the icons...you missed them. Also, why bother changing Flo's outfit when you can't really see it in the game because her figure is squashed to fit the screen. 2. Upgrades....what a disappointment!! It would be great if you had to EARN the money for the upgrades and (like the original Diner Dash) be able to choose colors and styles of your restaurant area. Instead...for example on the cruise ship...you can either choose a pool or ugly comfortable seating or whatever else they give you....and you can only choose one thing at the end of each level. Overall...I'm giving it 3 stars because it IS Diner Dash....but if I rented this game and tried it out, I wouldn't have payed the $ to own it. |
