The older I get, the more I appreciate what are called "casual games" - simple objectives, like Tetris are more my speed. I grew up playing Asteroids, Centipede, Root Beer Tapper & Frogger... in many ways, this game is a combination of all of those. The main character of the game tells her boss to shove it (in a nice way, of course) and starts her own restaurant. She has a variety of customers... college kids, senior citizens, business men & women - and all have different levels of patience, tipping and fuses.

As the main character, you must make sure you break even at the end of the day, or you could lose the restaurant. A really good haul can mean the difference in new decorations, a remodel or even a new building.

The fish and chips restaurant segues into an Indian fare as you advance, and the main character attains special 'powers' as she morphs a la Vishnu into a Hindu goddess. A tad new-agey, but still fairly tame. I have spent hours playing this clever, well rendered, challenging game. It's a good way to escape w/o blowing things up or shooting at something on a screen.

As soon as you start playing this game you'll get hooked! It's a very fast paced game and you have to be quick at serving the customers that come at you restaurant. You play as Flo, a desk girl who decides to open her own chain of restaurants. It's an awsome game that leaves you hungry for more. You will love it !:D:D:D:D

Flo is determined to make a go of her new career as a restaurant owner. From a tiny dilapidated diner she slowly make improvements to become the queen of the fanciest place in the land. That's where you come in. There are four restaurants in all. Each restaurant builds on new skills.

As you work you way though adding tables, decorations, drink stations and the like, the difficulty increases. Once you reach the end of spiffying up ONE restaurant another is built and you begin the process all over but with a higher level of difficulty. There is the just passing level as well as the expert level; so there are two goals to achieve - moving on and moving on with style.

A row of hearts appears with each group of customers and if you keep them happy with quick service (or in some cases free goodies and beverages) the hearts remain signifying the happiness of the customers. If you are slow or your time gets divided between TOO many customers, some folks can get upset. If you do not get back to placate them, the get VERY huffy and simply leave along with a good number of points. So the most important task as the restaurant owner (and waitress) is to KEEP those customers.

Seating is important as customers are color coded. You can match the color of their outfits to the color of the chairs and get additional points (sometimes VERY necessary to get to your goal). The more times a "red" person sits in the same chair for example, the more points you get.

You also get extra points by preforming the same task multiple times. So if you keep some of your customers calm with drinks you can take four orders at once and get many bonus points.

Awesome game, I got hooked right away. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because after you play awhile, you get stuck at one level for a very long time. Almost impossible to pass.

If you love this game, you will LOVE the game called "Cake Mania", after I got stuck on this game, I switched to that one.

I have played all three of the diner dash games and can't seem to quit. I think I am addicted! i have played each one for hours on end and still am not satisfied. The lower levels can take away from the game due to being so easy to complete, it is once you have 2 or 3 buildings and have reached level 8 or higher that it gets interesting. I get totally lost in these games and would definately recommend to anyone. My 10 year old daughter is also addicted, we actually argued over who was going to play so I went out and bought the other ones, now we don't need to argue.

The box states that this game is compatible with Mac OS X 10.2 or later. This is a lie. I have OS X 10.5 Leopard and there are many others on the PlayFirst forums who are in the same shoes. The setup program does NOT work for Leopard. Do NOT buy this if you are a Mac OS X 10.5 user.

I'm not the kind of person who can play the most up to date video games b/c I find them very difficult to follow. However, Diner Dash is simple to learn and very addicting once you get the hang of it! If you want hours to go by in what seems like minutes, this is the game for you. I agree with the other reviewer that Cake Mania is similar to this one and I recommend both very highly!
