5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible product
Quality was great. Worked at home and at the office. I use if for fun and for work. Our factory and warehouse are in different parts of the country and the world. Voice recognition was really cool, and it understood me, I was suprised :)

I would really recommend this product. It is fun and saves a lot of money cos its free service.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great idea but hard to get working
Such an excellent idea and it was on sale so I figured why not try it out? I like to play with unusual electronics especially if they have something to do with radio! As expected the software is rather good-looking but not very reliable. I'm still experimenting with the device itself so the software doesn't really matter to me.

After I got the Dingotel I ran...

5.0 out of 5 stars DingoTel is great, June 19, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DingoTel 2Way Two-Way Radio Internet Bridge (Electronics)
DingoTel is one of the best devices ever to be designed for the consumer grade two-way radio. Since the average GMRS radio currently provides an output power of 1-2 watts, it allows people to move farther apart for communication. This device, however, allows people to be hundreds and thousands of miles apart, or even in another country. It uses the internet to transmit your voice from your radio, so the possibilities are limitless. In this age of broadband internet, there is not even much of a delay between radio transmissions. Just 1-2 adapters can cover an entire neighborhood or campus so that you can have a radio network. I can also see this device being used to manage inventories at multiple locations. Unfortunately, only a single pin cable is included, so all those dual pin radios are useless but of course still can be used for the portable "walk-around" radio. All recent MOTOROLA radios (from the talkabout 280 series and the FR50/60 series on) use a single pin. The recent COBRA radios have a single pin also. ALL MIDLAND radios have dual pins, as well as the older MOTOROLA radios such as the 200, 250, Distance, and Distance DPS.

Instead of going over with you how it works, since you can read about that on the site, I'll go over some PROS and CONS of the DingoTel two-way adapater.

PROS: -cheap

-small

-adjustable codecs to allow for lower bandwidth

-great technical support

-infinite possibilities

-FREE service to use

CONS: -currently, only a single pin wire is included

There are currently only a handful of places to buy the DingoTel device, but so far AMAZON.com beats them for price. I recommend buying it on AMAZON.com rather than at best buy or the DingoTel website, where it's sold for $50.

Such an excellent idea and it was on sale so I figured why not try it out? I like to play with unusual electronics especially if they have something to do with radio! As expected the software is rather good-looking but not very reliable. I'm still experimenting with the device itself so the software doesn't really matter to me.

After I got the Dingotel I ran out and bought a pair of Motorola GMRS handsets with charging stations to work with this--unfortunately some radios do not charge in their base stations when they're powered on so you'll need to find one that does or your batteries wear out. The cheaper Motorola FRS-only radios don't appear to charge while operating, so use a battery eliminator device that goes into the battery compartment instead. None of the ones I have operate without batteries in the radio while resting in the charging station so you still need batteries or a battery eliminator contraption. You can try to find a base station that accepts single-pin Motorola headsets--good luck trying to find one.

Interestingly enough, both Microsoft Voice Synthesizer and Microsoft Voice Recognition are required for the software to function because you have to have some way to control the device from your walkie-talkie. I successfully got that feature working but as with most voice recognition software it is hard to convince the computer what you want to do. The MS Voice Recognition isn't the command-taking kind but the dictation kind, so I think command-taking voice recognition like you find on telephone customer service numbers would have worked better--maybe Windows Vista supports that kind of voice recognition.

Pros:
This product is an exceptionally interesting application of VoIP technology!
Device is super tiny and slick, requires just a USB port and comes with a USB extender cable. It's just really cool.
Voice recognition and synthesis!! (see Cons).
Neat orange-colored light.
The audio is completely self-contained inside the device as miniature digital sound card!! This means no clipping or other problems you need a sound technical geek to help you fix.
The idea has lots of promise (see Cons).

Cons:
This system requires the base station radio to have a single-pin Motorola-style headset jack. I should have been able to find adapters that convert the Motorola-style single-pin headset jack to the more common Cobra-style two-pin jacks but I've never found any.

5.0 out of 5 stars DingoTel USB bridge, February 17, 2006
This review is from: DingoTel 2Way Two-Way Radio Internet Bridge (Electronics)
This device allows you to connect two radios over the internet or a frs radio to a computer. It is a lot of fun to use. The audio is a little rough, but for the price it is quite acceptable. Make sure that you get Motorola radios, I have Cobras and the mic/earphone jack is slightly different, so you have to pull the plug out slightly to get it to work right. Worldwide Walkie Talkies - I wish there was cool stuff like this when I was a kid!

Just putting this up to reinforce the other review stating the same info. DO NOT BUY THESE! I just ordered from Cabella's without looking here first. Wish I would have looked at Amazon reviews as I usually do and I would have saved some time and effort!

3.0 out of 5 stars only half, April 17, 2007
This review is from: DingoTel 2Way Two-Way Radio Internet Bridge (Electronics)
Well the concept is great. Linking distant radio repeaters together via the internet. I think this would be a great assett for Search Rescue and disaster relief work. As long as you have infastructure. HOWEVER you need to be somewhat techie--I was NOT able to make it work -stright from the box--.

No support. All emails to support unanswered. Is dingotel even in business anymore? Their digital certificates authenticating dingotel via SSL seem to have all expired. I prepaid some money for the +dail option to terminate calls to landlines, but the dialer does not work. Not pleased at all, and out of patience with the product. I would like my money back
