5.0 out of 5 stars Great Multimedia Device March 3, 2011
Verified Purchase
It's not very often that you find such a wonderful multimedia device for such a low price,
I got this device mainly for the emulation purposes but was very surprised to see that it hosted a wide variety of other functions as well including a photo viewer, a radio broadcaster, music/video player and even a flash player, although only up to flash version 6 if I understand correctly. This is definitely not a gadget for the technologically impaired however as it does require a bit of technical know-how in order to get the full functionality out of the item. The biggest problem I found is sometimes the system doesn't pick up the rom files you put into it because it's looking for particular formats. Sega genesis in particular were bad. There is a dirty little trick to get this to work though. All you have to do is rename the files that aren't showing up with the correct extension and they run. (the extension is .smd) Other than that it works pretty well, the sound is a bit lacking coming out of the speakers the volume can get tricky as well as most of the controls for this are in the applications themselves not on the system. However, the system has a site dedicated to creating new software for the little gadget located here. [...]. It has a few minor flaws such as the menu is written in engrish, and some of the 16 bit games get a little jumpy but overall a great product and well worth the money

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! January 9, 2012
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I researched this little gizmo for months and debated about weather or not I should actually get it. My girlfriend ended up buying it for me for Christmas this year. Reviews online were mixed, but generally positive, so I am glad I did get it.

This little device will play just about any game you throw at it. Yes there are some games that won't run properly, but there are enough that do to make up for that.

The Gameboy Advance emulator is by far the best of the stock emu's that come on this device. NES runs good, SNES needs to be tweaked from game to game (frame skip), and the Genesis games all work great....if you can find the right file extensions for the Sega games.

The greatest part about this device is its "openness" Meaning, there are plenty of developers out there that have created/ported additional emulators for this item. Google is your friend when it comes to finding additional goodies for this device.

P.S. You do not need to install Dingux in order to get full enjoyment from this item. It works just fine with the OS that it comes with.

3.0 out of 5 stars An emulation-centric, portable game system June 2, 2011
Verified Purchase
I purchased this product for my son, who is an avid gamer. This is his review:

The software seems to have been hastily written by hackers with no UI experience. It's not something for everybody, as it requires a degree of research, patience and nerding out to get things working. It isn't perfect, but it is what I thought it would be, and I am enjoying it!

5.0 out of 5 stars REALLY FUN....But January 23, 2012

I really enjoy this emulator. The D-Pad is great, buttons work well and the interface is generally easy to use. My only problems that occurred with this item is the internal battery for some games (the thing that allows the game to fully function, clockbased events and battery save files also known as .sav). Don't let that confuse you with the battery on the emulator. I can play for 6 hours a day for 5 days and the battery is still over half full, which is a HUGE bonus. But you may need to run gba games through a patch to allow in-game saves. For some of you that may not be an issue, but for pokemon, clock based events (growing berries for example) don't work. Save states are fine, except when you beat the elite four and it there's an error while trying to save (it freaks out and thinks the file is deleted after you reset). Just make sure to patch the game and save state before the elite four and delete the .sav file for your pokemon game in the browser on the device before you actually beat the elite four. A little bit of work but afterwards everything works fine. And i didn't get a silicone case.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Not For Everyone December 15, 2012

The Dingoo A320 is a great handheld, despite certain drawbacks. It's durability is my main concern, as are the constant errors I receive when ejecting it from my laptop. It lacks the ability to run certain ROMs on it's native snes emulator, and to play genesis games you must find and download a file converter since it doesn't play .gen/.bin files, only .smd files. Most GBA counterparts to SNES classics play better as far as the Mario franchise goes, and some games may have minor graphical glitches, but overall barely effect playing. The last of it's shortcomings would have to be the placement of the headphone jack. it's extremely awkward when holding it, and make's certain games almost impossible to play efficiently.

Apart from these downsides you still can play many great classic games and there's even homebrew emulators you can find within the dingoo community. you can even create savestates and they're managed better than in typical emulation in my opinion. This is a pretty versatile piece of tech, it can play flash videos, movies, and music, it can emulate, you can plug it into your tv, and you can use it as a voice recorder, though that isn't necessarily what appeals to me. It has some 3d capabilities which will hopefully be expounded upon in the future, and has many native emulators. You might just be looking to play some classics like Earthbound, Ninja Gaiden, or Metroid II, but you can even play games you never would have ever had the chance to.

I couldn't recommend this for an average gamer as this requires some patience, but, if you're already looking for a handheld emulator, I'd look no further.
