While I myself have at times read Sherlock Holmes stories for my own amusement, my significant other is a die-hard, obsessive fan of the stories . . . he also happens to love to cook. I bought him this book for his birthday, and he became immediately absorbed in it. Not only are the recipes authentic to the time period, but the authors are stellar scholars of the world of Sherlock Holmes. The scene and quotations referenced in the book are extremely detailed and will delight those who are fully immersed in the world of Baker Street. Others (like myself) will find the details to be too minute and tedious. For those who would appreciate historically accurate recipes coupled with commentary on the world of Sherlock Holmes and British hisory/customs, this is the perfect book.

The first time I found a copy of this book, I was most pleasantly surprised! I never even knew such a cookbook existed. As a lover of both Sherlock Holmes and British food, I am happy to add "Dining With Sherlock Holmes" to my collection of Sherlockian literature and numerous cookbooks.
Among other scrumptious items, I found a recipe for potato pancakes that I tried for Chanukah with perfect results!
I highly recommend "Dining With Sherlock Holmes"---and if you're not a Sherlock Holmes fan, this book just might "convert" you!

This is one cookbook that you can actually read! Besides the tempting recipes, there is a lot of other information to digest. As to the recipes themselves, some are quite simple, others are much more elaborate. I found the relating of the recipes to Sherlock Holmes mysteries to be the real treat of the book.

This is a wonderful cookbook! It includes almost every possible dish Sherlock
Holmes and Dr. Watson might have delighted in partaking of courtesy of
Mrs. Hudson.

Victorian cooking is at the heart of the society of that time. Perhaps The
Queen enjoyed some of these dishes?

Go back in time to Holmesian England and create these very fine dishes
yourself and imagine Holmes and Watson sitting across from you,
discussing their latest case while you sit quietly and listen while you
enjoy your supper!

As a Sherlock Holmes fan, I think this is a must-have in the library and I fully intend to try out many of the recipes inside! The foods are classically British and have in some way been tied in to the Conan Doyle stories, either as the specific dish mentioned, something appropriate to the meal, or simply a general theme. I prefer those that are, or would have been, authentic to the story given, but they certainly all sound delicious and I can't wait to try them.
