"DISASTERS" IS DELIGHTFUL!,
By
This review is from: Dinner Party Disasters: True Stories of Culinary Catastrophe (Hardcover)
I bought this book because I found the title amusing, but in addition to the disastrous tales there is some wonderful advice. I don't think of myself as an entertainer, but now I'm inspired (and armed with the wisdom of others' mistakes!)
Often I don't know what to bring my hosts when attending a dinner party. Flowers seem so trite. I plan on buying several copies of this book so that I have a "go to" gift, whenever in doubt. Dinner Party Disasters would make an excellent hostess gift or a gift to a newly married couple.

What a charming book! It's far from a disaster. I received it as a party favor, but have purchased several as hostess gifts. Anyone who's ever entertained will smile knowingly.

I used this book as last summer's hostess gift in a community where I've got to do about a dozen of those a summer. It's a delightful little book and everyone loved it. Got great feedback. My attached gift card always said something like, "It's so much more fun when it happens to someone else!".

A "Disaster" to remember!,

What a great read this book is! Hilarious party situations are the stuff of the Marx Brothers' films! And as such delicious stories go - the pages fly on and on - I read the whole thing in one shot! In the clever and informative "editorial" notes, stylishly printed on a darker, grey-green paper, on can truly appreciate the wit and elegance of the author, consider the following advice on "ice breakers" - or conversation starters: "Didn't you just get back from...? (e.g. your dauther's wedding, Iceland, Anderson Federal Prison)
The delirious story about a little girl's undertable poop-session during a french-style soiree is heaven! I can hardly think of a better party gift - or an airplane read, indeed. Written with marvelous vocabulary - it is full of informed advice about all things domestic and social - and may provide some adverturous soul with fantastic prank ideas! (although I wouldn't attempt the little girl's undertable advantures unless you are under 3 y.o. - it will loose its charm) In one word - SUPER!

Delightful Disasters,
This review is from: Dinner Party Disasters: True Stories of Culinary Catastrophe (Hardcover)
What a delight -- tips for entertaining, invaluable advice and laugh-out-loud anecdotes (my favorite is the one about the barbeque "balcony" with access only through the guest bathroom...) An amusing and elegant little gem of a book. Great for gift-giving or to treat yourself. Highly recommended.

On the back of my copy was the original price of $14.95 here in the USA and I couldn't believe it. I paid $4.00 and this book was a waste of my hard-earned dollars. It was extremely short and the stories were not interesting or humorous. I was expecting so much more from the reviews. Also, this book was written by very wealthy people who cooked food I can't even afford to purchase. All in all, this book was a needless waste. If you have nothing better to do with your money and don't know what to do with your money, purchase this stupid waste of time.

My disaster was buying this book!,

Expected more. This book is small in size--5 X 7 and filled with 90
pages of wasted space and brainless stories with very little humor. I read reviews before purchasing this book and saw recommendations as a hostess gift. I would insult anyone by giving this as a gift. The only good thing was for Ms. Soros who benefited from my purchase. I got ripped off by a good title and actually wasted time reading the book! |
