5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Tool for Family Devotions (K-College!)
I'm a parent of 3 who is filled with gratitude for the book "Dinner Table Devotions". I have been doing "formal" devotion books with my kids since the 1st one started kindergarden (now he's a sophmore and my youngest is 10!) I have found that so many of the books lack sound teaching and I have been discouraged by the fact that I've had to correct some of the lessons. We...

3.0 out of 5 stars For an older audience
I bought this book with the anticipation of sharing these dinner devotionals with my three sons, ages 8,13 and 16. While many devotionals are appropriate, there are several that would be more appropriate for an older audience with topics such as adultry, burning in hell, etc. So, I can't let my children automatically go to today's date and lead the devotional. Instead,...

We aren't quite done the year but so far every lesson has been a wonderful tool to help my children grow in their faith and understanding. It's filled with sound and solid theological underpinnings that help us talk to the kids about the character of God and the nature of his redemptive plan rather than little moral lessons from Bible characters. I struggle to put my beliefs and faith into clear words that can be understood, this book has helped me do just that every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasently Surprised by theological soundness and Whole-Family Accessibility, June 7, 2009

I picked up this book at my local Christian bookstore, half-expecting to be revolted by cheesy cliches. But, wow - not the case. This book is full of well-thought-through TRUTH. NOT catchy, gimmicky, overly-sentimental "fluff."

I HIGHLY recommend this book, especially for families with mixed-ages of children. The book does a great job of addressing young children, while not talking down to high school aged students. I have 1 kindergartener, 1 preschool-aged kid, and a baby, and I expect that we'll begin using this devotional in a year or 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Spiritual Food for Dinner, December 30, 2008
This review is from: One Year of Dinner Table Devotions and Discussion Starters: 365 Opportunities to Grow Closer to God as a Family (Paperback)
I gave this book to my daughter to use with her children at dinner time. On Christmas Eve we joined them for a celebratory feast. After the dessert was cleared they asked if they could do one of the devotionals from Dinner Table Devotions! Out it came as every one gathered around. The oldest daughter (8) got to do all of the reading and did so with enthusiasm. Then came time for the questions. I was amazed at the depth of the questions presented and also at the enjoyment the kids had in answering them! Nancy Guthrie has written an excellent tool for families and it was apparent to me that the children loved it! I was especially glad to see the writing and questions are truly thought provoking and pointed the way to deeper spiritual growth. I would recommend this book to families with children six and older. It is a great tool and something the whole family can enjoy!

3.0 out of 5 stars For an older audience, August 9, 2010

I bought this book with the anticipation of sharing these dinner devotionals with my three sons, ages 8,13 and 16. While many devotionals are appropriate, there are several that would be more appropriate for an older audience with topics such as adultry, burning in hell, etc. So, I can't let my children automatically go to today's date and lead the devotional. Instead, I read first and verbally edit as needed. Several of my friends have this book and feel the same as I do. When the topic is kid-friendly, the book does begin great discussions, prayer and family interaction.

I bought this book to use during dinnertime. My children are 10, 4, & 1, and this was way too old for them to understand. I had to put it up for a few years!

This family devotional book is really good. My only problem with it is that I think it is too mature for my 10, 9 and 4 year old. We have been using it and I will probably go through it again when the kids get older.

This book is awesome. We have an 8 year old son and even my husband and I are learning from the bible studies just like he is!! We even had some friends over from church and did a study from this book, and even though the pages are simple and short, our conversation and ideas lasted for a long time. Great book!!!

This book has allowed me to have devotions with my 10yr old boy where he actually understands. Most books like this are simply to intense or take so much time I have lost his attention. It only takes about 5 mins or less but can lead to hours of quality conversation with kids who use to give 1 word answers. I would highly recommend this. I bought it used and it was in great contd.

We love this book! My kids join the discussions. I often learn from them, they help us see things a new way. They even like to take turns reading.

This has been an awesome book for my family. After dinner each night we take a few minutes to read the day's passage and verses. Sometimes we need the discuss starter questions and sometimes we don't. These messages are great for all of us. We are having, as a family, such wonderful conversations.
