Best Book of Tyler's Yet,
By
This review is from: Dinner at My Place (Paperback)
I have purchased, or read at the library, every book Tyler Florence has put together, but this one is the best work he has done! The book is an easy read, none of the recipes are complicated - I think Tyler gets out of hand some times with his ingredients and processes - but this book is excellent. I especially like the more friendly approach to the book and he lets what I suspect is his good-natured personality come through. It's a good book, buy it.

Tyler Does it Again!,
This review is from: Dinner at My Place (Paperback)
I'm a big fan of Tyler's cookbooks. I own 3 of them. Each one of them is exceptional. This one in particular is divided into chapters of "menus." There is even a chapter of freshly prepared baby foods, which really excited me since I'm a new aunt and will be able to use some of those ideas for feeding my nephew! Here's the list of chapters:Crab Season Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner Tolan's Birthday Dinner Guys' Game Night Sick Day Happy Hour A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Hospital... Vegetarian Night: The Carnivore's Dilemma Pregnancy Pasta Rock 'N' Roll Taco Workin' Late Baby in the Kitchen Sunday Night Dinner by the Fire Cheat Sheet Tyler's recipes are always spot-on. Quite a few recipes from his show are in here, with maybe slight adaptions (for example the book has a recipe for Prime Rib Chili, whereas on his show he made a Texas-style chili using a cheaper cut of meat). The recipes are quite similar, but this one is included in a beautiful book!

Like the first review of this book I could'nt agree more.. Tyler has come along way if you have followed this kid from S.C.He has remarried with two new beautiful children, along with his first son Miles, Tyler is forging the "common mans dream".. It's all about passion, which Tyler has plenty of, and not far behind he has no fear.. Aligning himself with solid people along his path in the business, it has given him the ability to be himself, unlike alot of celeb-chefs.. You can always tell a genuine person when they let you into their personal lives.. If you ever notice in all of his books everyone is always smiling, including the dog!! If your looking to add some great books to your collection you can start with any from the Tyler Florence library.. The newest additions Dinner at My Place, and Stirring The Pot, are terrific to buy together, and compliment each other well.. It's not all recipes, there are techiques and an approach that guides the home cook as well as teaches!! A collection of books that shares its food, photos, and stories.. And best of all if you let it, will build confidence in the minds of people who have the same passion for food!!... What more could a Chef/Author want than his readers to be successful... Keep Stirring The Pot...

I received this cookbook as a gift and while it is a lovely book, full of mouth-watering photos and yummy-sounding recipes, I noticed two errors right off the bat as I was paging through it. First of all, the Summer Squash Risotto recipe ends in mid-sentence and is not continued anywhere else. Secondly, the Bloody Mary recipe doesn't contain any alcohol! It is simply a spicy tomato drink--NOT a Bloody Mary. In the Amazon reviews, I see that another reader had problems with an incomplete recipe. Whassup, Tyler?

Wow- I couldn't wait to start using this cookbook. I made the chicken meatball tortellini soup and it was a huge hit. Even my picky 14 month old couldn't get enough of it. I have always referred to Tyler's other cookbooks, but this one is by far the most approachable. It is definitely a must have for cook book junkies like myself.

Great recipes, needs better organization.,

I bought the book yesterday and was so excited because the recipes are definitely my style. My friend and I just made two of the recipes this evening. We made the Garden Puree Bruschetta which was delicious, we loved it! Then we made the Pancetta Carbonera, which was very good, but the sauce was difficult. My only criticism is: for the Bruschetta recipe there are no directions for making the bread, that may be a no-brainer for some, but I've never made it before and didn't know what temp to set the oven, and the book didn't say-- I ended up going to Google. The Carbonera recipe just wasn't very well organized as far as what to do first, etc. It said to make the sauce while the pasta cooked, but the pasta only took 2 minutes and the sauce took 8! Otherwise the dinner was beautiful and impressive. It just seemed like some of the recipes weren't tested on novices such as myself.

Unlike other readers, I enjoy the stories/text/pictures in this book. If I wanted just simple boring recipe books where I just follow a text recipe, I'd buy another Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. I enjoy this book for it's commentary, and the photo montages of the different stages of each recipe. I think it's all part of the experience of cooking Tyler Florence's recipes, and it makes cooking more fun and satisfying to me to know how that particular recipe is integrated into his home.A few of the recipes are a little out of my league, I mean who has time (and the desire) to cook homemade pasta on a week night? Some of the tools/techniques he uses are little advanced, when I thought this book was supposed to be his more casual non-professional-kitchen recipes. I was surprised to find the baby food section, which is actually relevant to me right now with a new baby, but that was a surprise to find and I wonder how other buyers would respond to that. I wonder if I didn't have a baby right now, would I be disappointed at the amount of space the homemade baby food section took up? It's almost as if it didn't belong in this book, but rather he published a small baby-food book or something. I really love this book and Tyler Florence, some of the recipes I just disregard, but thats the same with any cookbook. Not every cookbook will be front to back perfect for you and your family. I love the stories, the introductions, and the photos. |
