Grade 4-6-This title makes a heavy claim to promote reading over television, but buyers beware-there are some books out there that are worse than the mighty cathode-ray tube, and this is one of them. The authors spend a lot of time putting down the "Barney" show, but the writing quality here, combined with the fact that the title has a trademark, puts the book on a par with that preschool idol. The Dino MitesTM are three kids who discover a cache of dinosaur eggs, miraculously preserved by pseudoscientific means. The children are bitten by the hatchlings, which gives them the power to turn into dinosaurs themselves. They use their prehistoric talents to stop the greedy Mr. Golden, who's exploiting a paleontological dig for his own profit. The dialogue and action are similar to that of a Saturday morning cartoon, but at least in cartoons the characters blink so you know they're alive. Skip this one.
