About the Author

Roger Priddy left school at 16 with just one qualification--in art. He went to Berkshire College of Art and Design and trained as an illustrator. His first job in children's books was working with the publisher Peter Usborne, at Usborne Publishing, and then he worked with Peter Kindersley at Dorling Kindersley, where he spent 16 years. Priddy became Creative Director of DK's Children's Division and was Managing Director of the children's mass market publisher Funfax when it was acquired by DK.

In 2000, he created Priddy Books with John Sargent at St Martin's Press to create innovative and imaginative titles for children, from first books for babies through early reference titles for older children. Since then, over 30 million copies of Roger's 200 plus books have sold worldwide, with five of his books--My Big Animal, My Big Truck, Happy Baby Words, Happy Baby Colors and Puppy and Friends--each selling over one million copies. He is also the author of Big Board First 100 Words; Big Board Books Colors, ABC, Numbers; and Bright Baby Noisy Monsters. His creativity has been recognized with numerous industry awards. Priddy lives in London with his wife Zena and their four children.

Format: Board book
My daughter picked this board book out for my dinosaur mad 2.5 year old son. Although it is a board book, its really geared at a higher age level, but my son loves it. I would say its more aimed at 3.5-4 years old and up. Each letter has a corresponding dinosaur whose name begins with that letter. What I love is that it has a phonetic pronouciation so you as a parent can read it. Each page has a realistic "picture" of the dinosaur, not a cartoon, a little diagram on the dinosaur next to a person to show the child how big the dinosaur was, plus facts about the dinosaur. For my son, I just skip the facts for the moment and read the letter and the dinosaurs name and he loves it.

It's unfortunate I think because the board book format probably keeps it from being selected for the proper age group, but overall I think its a great book for dinosaur lovers.

My son loved this book when we bought it in preparation to go to the Museum of Natural History at age 2 years 10 months. Having the pronunciation is wonderful, and I love how my son started correcting our pronunciation if we don't emphasize the right syllable. He even grew interested in repeating some of the facts. He could remember them one reading to the next, so there is no need to skip them with younger children. Perfect for the kid who has recently learned letters and shows interest in dinosaurs. It's very hard to find a dinosaur book that hits this age group so perfectly. Some have too much information and some are too childish. I would highly recommend it.

I'd give it a 3.5 if I could, though.

If your kid is really into dinosaurs, then they'll love this book. I want to be very clear on that fact. It's full of interesting facts, it has size comparisons on every page, it has the correct pronunciation for every dinosaur listed, great.

If your kid is only kinda into dinosaurs, though, it may well be too long. TOO much information (especially as it's ostensibly teaching the alphabet as well) for the preschool set... and even for more fidgety kindergarteners.

In addition, it's a little oversized, making it difficult to fit it on my bookshelf. This is something that could've been dealt with if I'd thought ahead, but I didn't. (I note that the information on amazon calls this book 16 pages. I entered the ISBN to find this book to review it, it's more like 32 pages instead of 16.)

Consider your kid's personality, and think about checking this book out of the library before buying.

I have a two year old who is obsessed with dinosaurs. He has many books about them, and this one is by far the most interesting to him. It gives some fun facts about each dinosaur, gives a little picture that compares each to a humans size so you can see how big they would've been, and also tells how to pronounce the names (very helpful for whoever's doing the reading). The pages are also very sturdy and do not tear easily. I highly recommend this to anyone who has children interested in dinosaurs.

Got this as a gift for my 3 year old nephew for his birthday along with some Dinosaurs... He loved it! Great introduction to Dinosaurs, might not be advanced enough for a preteen.

some of the most popular dino's are not included, like t-rex. I am surprised that they used certain dinos for letters e and j. both letters do not make the e or j sound so for a child who is struggling with his alphabet like my son is, this
book only served to confuse him more.

my 4 year old is in love with dinosaurs, he can't get enough of this book. He takes it to bed and wakes up reading it in the morning.

My 3 year old son loves this book and so do I. The "photos" of dinosaurs are great. They do look a bit scarey, so we don't do this as his bedtime book, but he loves looking at it and we practice saying the names, learning a few facts, and pointing out different features.

I for one have been trying to learn my dinosaur alphabet for a while (since I saw Dinosaur Train, lol) and this is a big help. I'm even adding sticky notes so we can have the names of multiple dino names that start with each letter.

The book I rec'd when I ordered was not a board book. It's a regular hardcover, and we love it.
