My dinosaur loving son gives this book an A!,
By Jen "Mom, NICU Nurse, and Disney freak" (Rock Hill, SC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Dinosaur Alphabet Book (Jerry Pallotta's Alphabet Books) (Paperback)
I've been having the worst time trying to review the alphabet with my 4 year old son. He is a dinosaur fanatic, so I was looking for this exact book for quite some time. Now he is more open to exploring and learning letters, since he also gets to read about dinosaurs at the same time. The illustrations could be better and I can think of some of the dinosaur names that could have been substituted for some of the letters, but overall this book fits the need :)

my almost 3 year old son is obsessed with dinosaurs. i thought this would be a great book for him to learn more about dinosaurs, and learn his alphabet at the same time.it is very informative, but the dinosaurs that are used are so difficult to pronounce! there needs to be some sort of phonetic spelling or something so that you can accurately read the book. i was hoping for something a litte more simplistic, maybe b is for brontosaurus?? t is for triceratops? the book is very nice, the pictures are great, it is just way above my son's head other than he knows they are different kinds of dinosaurs.

My 6 year old now knows more about dinosaurs than I do, or his teacher, or anyone else we know for that matter. This is a really cute book loaded with interesting information about dinosaurs. We found it originally at the library, and he liked it so much, we decided to buy it for him.

The pictures are very nice and the captions are cute but the names are too hard to say and there is no pronunciation hints. That defeats the purpose of the exercise.

Disguised as an alphabet book this clever science study intrigues students with its unusual dinosaurs from A to Z, its challenging text, and its captivating illustrations. ...children of all ages will gasp with delight as each page is turned!

T should stand for T-Rex,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Dinosaur Alphabet Book (Jerry Pallotta's Alphabet Books) (Paperback)
My 4 year old son did not like this book because all of the Dinosaurs that Mr. Pallotta wrote about were obscure - for example T does not stand for Tyrannasaurus Rex. He was so disappointed when we got to the letter T. I also think that since dinosaur names are so complex, this is not a great format for teaching ABC's.

Very informative - about dinosaurs, not so much about the alphabet!,

First, let me say that this is NOT an alphabet book. An alphabet book is a book geared towards the preschool age group to teach them their letters during storytime. This book is pretty long for one storytime, it's very dense, it has some complicated information... and it's probably better suited for children closer to 8 than to 4. At that point, they already know their alphabet. No, this book is a book about dinosaurs that happens to go in alphabetical order. To that end, many - or all - of the dinosaurs will be unfamiliar to your child. Instead of running through the same short list of apatosaurus (brontosaurs to us old folk) and T-rexes and stegosauruses, these are all DIFFERENT dinosaurs. Your kid can actually learn something instead of repeating what he already knows. The paragraphs about the dinosaurs are very informative, talking about their bones and teeth and various hypotheses for their extinction, and I really like that many of the dinosaurs are colored with fanciful colors (I particularly liked the Fabrosaurus) instead of the usual browns and greys and army greens. (Questrosaurus is done in black and white, with an explanation that of course we have NO IDEA what colors the dinosaurs were).

Great book to expose kids to new ideas,

My little girl (3 years) loves this book. She loves trying to say the long names of the dinosaurs and is interested when I tell her some of the interesting facts listed in the book. One tidbit that many books overlook - what color were the dinosaurs? No one knows. The author makes this point when he colors one pink - my daughter's favorite page.Is this a good book for learning the alphabet? It's just as good as any "sit down and learn the alphabet" book. In general, learning the alphabet works much better if you make a game out of it... hunt the letter A in the grocery store, how many H's on the street signs on your walk, even alphabet hopscotch. But you can use this and other books like it by having the child hunt for the letter shown on that page in the text of that page. The more physical your child, the more active the game needs to be. This is a great book for learning about dinosaurs, learning long words, discovering that mom (or dad) doesn't always know how to pronounce something and has to sound it out and struggle with it too.

I like the Dinosaur Alphabet book because I like dinosaurs.I think this is a good book for small children because it teaches facts about the dinosaurs and the alphabet. I liked the pictures and I'm sure you would too.
