This might be the great book ever written. Maybe.

I can best describe this book as "written by a committee of 6-year-old boys with impeccable rhythm." It's got diggers and backhoes and cranes and sound effects and ten different dinosaurs building something very special. I won't spoil the surprise ending for you, but it's pretty cool what ten dinosaurs can build in ten pages.

The rhythm and cadence of this book are great, makes for a fun read before bedtime. I don't even mind reading it five times in a row, as is usually requested. My daughter loves to count the dinosaurs and say the sound effects with me. The only downside is that she is disappointed when she sees a backhoe in the real world and it is not being manned by a T-Rex.

This book is about Dinosaurs at a construction site who use machines like diggers, dump trucks and concrete pumpers to build a big pool. The dinosaurs play and have fun in the pool they built themselves.

Other kids would enjoy this book because it has cool dinosaurs and lots of construction vehicles. It even has a concrete pumper that most kids probably haven't seen before.

Two of my favorite parts in this book are when the Megalosaurus is sitting down reading instead of working and when the Megalosaurus squirts the Allosaurus with blue paint.

Children aged 4 - 6 would like this book. They would enjoy the illustrations of the dinosaurs doing funny stuff that real dinosaurs wouldn't have done in real life. Boys would really enjoy this book.

I would give this book a 5 for its illustrations and a 10 for its words since I could read them by myself.

Thump! Crash! Clatter! Clunk! Scrape! Sploosh! As the dinosaurs dig away at their construction site their numbers increase and their project gets more & more involved. Count as the number and variety of dinosaurs adds up until the very last page when the final project is revealed.

It's no secret, our family has a huge reservoir of dino-lovers. Not only has my four year old son been a fan since I can remember, but as soon as my two year old daughter could start playing with his dinosaurs she grabbed them and wouldn't let go. One of the first series of books we introduced to both kiddos were the "How Do Dinosaurs...?" series by Jane Yolen and they instantly fell in love. So when I discovered Nosy Crow had a new dinosaur book coming out I was obviously interested, as were the kiddos. The illustrations are actually quite similar to the style found in Yolen's series that's illustrated by Mark Teague which was a huge bonus because it felt like you were revisiting an old friend.

What sets Dinosaur Dig! apart from other dinosaur books is the brilliant text and gorgeous characterization. Often counting books are either too simple with only three to five word sentences per spread making it somewhat boring for older readers who may be past the "learning to count" stage. Dinosaur Dig! has just the right balance with a well written opening sentence followed up by a rephrasing of the same sentence along with action words on each spread. This set up makes it easy for very young readers/learners to focus on the numbers but also makes it enjoyable for older readers who enjoy reading and interacting with the dinosaurs on the page. There are also the scientific names of the dinosaurs on the inside cover of the book, which the Turkeybird loves learning!

If you have a young person in your life who loves dinosaurs and various kinds of heavy vehicles, this is a story worth sharing. It is also a counting book with detailed and colorful illustrations.

The vehicles included are steamrollers, dump trucks, crane truck , loader and more. Some of the dinosaurs are : Triceratops, Iguanodon, Tyrannosauarus Rex, Stegasaurus, and more. Each page shows the dinosaurs doing something to build a structure.

Words such as: dig, scrape, crash and clatter help to provide some auditory enhancement to the visual movement on each page.

What are the dinosaurs building? They created a swimming pool .

It is a very imaginative and delightful counting book!

My son absolutely loves this book! This author KNOWS boys! I was so ecstatic to see this book when I was searching for a book for my son. I was looking for something for a boys boy. Something with cool cars but the fact that dinosaurs are operating these machines was a HUGE bonus! The illustrations are gorgeous and very realistic! I will definitely be purchasing Dinosaur Zoom and Dinosaur Rescue when they come out in a board book format! I certainly hope that Miss Dale continues this series and keeps authoring very cool books for boys. This book is not just for ages 2-5 as it states but is also for younger readers since they have it in a board book. The book itself details a storyline about 10 dinosaurs working together (counting as the story progresses) to build a swimming pool. Building with stone blocks, rolling grit and sand, using cement, painting with blue paint, and digging with their mighty machines. The book focuses on teamwork, being friendly with one another, counting, showing that hard work can result into something great, all the while using onomatopoeias like "Sploosh! Splash! and Crash!" that make it so much fun for little boys to hear and imitate as well as fun for parents to role play and interact with their children. I cant say enough good things about this book. Kudos to the author! I am anxiously awaiting Miss Dale's future books!
