5.0 out of 5 stars beautifully presented photos and drawings
The DK series of eyewitness books are all fabulous, but this has to be my favorite. Dinosaurs are always appealing to children and adults and this book is no disappointment. Superb studio-quality, well lit photographs give you close-up shots of teeth and bones so real, you'll feel like they're right there for you to touch and pick up.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed
I have bought several of the DK book for my son (3 1/2 yrs) and have been very happy with all of them, so when he became interested in dinosaurs I thought this would be perfect for him. I have bought several of the DK book for my son (3 1/2 yrs) and have been very happy with all of them, so when he became interested in dinosaurs I thought this would be perfect for him. When I received it though, I was a little disappointed in it. It just didn't seem to have very much variety, as far as the dinosaurs and their names, etc...I ended up getting "Dinosaur Atlas- An amazing journey through a lost world", also by DK, and love it!!! It has exellent and extensive life-like pictures of the dinosaurs, along with the pronunciation and meaning of the names. It also has see-through pages overlaying some of the larger photos, showing the skeletal system of the dinosaur. There is also an interactive cd-rom included, which is kind of limited in what it shows, but a cool little addition. The book also sub-divides the dinosaurs by location, depending on what continent they lived on, and pages showing how and where they lived. There are all sorts of little tid-bits of info interspersed throughout the book (ie: "Did you know?" boxes), making it an even richer book. I love to sit dowon and look at this book with my son, since I learn so much too! I highly recommend this book over the basic Dinosaur book by DK.

Theories on how dinosaurs really looked on the outside and how they walked are explored. Every caption has a tidbit of information that is interesting to anyone who reads it. A book like this will keep a child of any reading age occupied for no less than an hour on a road trip... and it will constantly be read over and over again... it's just intriguing and beautifully presented.

I appreciate this book because it gives you drawings and paintings of how prehistoric creatures lived millions of years ago. It gives a perfect understanding of the study and also art of Paleontology. This book is, in my opinion, 1 of 2 of my most favorite books ever published for the scientific review of more than just a few species...This concludes my review.

This review is from: Dinosaur (Eyewitness Books) (Hardcover)
I have been reviewing books in the Eyewitness Companions series, and every so often someone has noted that there was an earlier Eyewitness Book series for kids. Oblivious was I. . . . The other day, when looking at one of my shelves, I found a whole shelf dedicated to books like this from when my son was young. So, this represents a wonderful rediscovery of a resource that proved valuable for my son as he was growing up!

"Dinosaurs" is very well done for younger readers. It provides quite a bit of information, in a style and context that would be accessible to kids and parents. The book is attractively published, with slick pages and lots of well done visuals, with many depictions of dinosaurs and their environment. An excellent educational resource!

The content? The book covers a lot of territory, without any great depth in any area. But that is quite appropriate for younger readers. Among subjects covered: Long-necked beasts; Dinosaur diets; Meat eaters; Plant eaters; Plated dinosaurs; Claws and their uses; Eggs and nests; Death of the Dinosaurs; Dinosaur or bird (are birds dinosaurs??); etc.

All in all, a great resource for kids who want to know more about dinosaurs.

2.0 out of 5 stars CD ROM? Is this 1992?, April 6, 2011

I'm a little peeved that this book arrived with a hole in the cover to display the CD ROM inside.

I kind of consider DK books to be mini works of art - this one is marred by a cheesy marketing gimmick.

The product description and photos above do not mention this modification - otherwise I would have not made the purchase. Bricks and mortar for the win.

In the past weeks of only done a couple of reviews on prehistoric dinosaur infomation reference books which were equally as in-depth in knowledge information as this eye-opening one is to read and are invaluable reference for their easy-to-use factual profile and extravagant fantasy illustrations of all sorts of dragon-like creatures from a misty hazy past long ago in short review that i wrote for dinophiles and people crazy about dinosaurs who you would naturall'y call obsessed into dinosauria mania which has existed forever since their myth and legend has surfaced into people's lives.

My son loves Eyewitness books and has a modest collection already. Dinosaur is the latest addition. The photos and illustrations are entertaining. The information in the books is well laid out and can hold the interest of kids and adults alike! Everyone can learn something from these books. There are over 100 titles, with new ones coming out all the time. I doubt my son will ever tire of Eyewitness books.
