Book Description

The 1909 discovery of bones protruding from a sandstone mountain in Utah led to the unearthing of other remains and proved to be one of the greatest fossil discoveries of the century.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6-- Dinosaur National Monument in Utah was created to protect the dinosaur fossil sites discovered by Earl Douglass. Although Douglass did most of his digging in the early 1900s, the site is still being excavated. Dinosaur Mountain takes readers for a visit to this bone quarry, introduces them to many of the dinosaurs found there, and explains the history of the site. The information is current and makes the book useful beyond its coverage of the monument. The color photographs of the digs are exquisite as well as unique, for children's books on dinosaurs tend to emphasize the creatures, not their remains. This appealing volume will be used for reports, and by children curious to know more about these prehistoric beasts. --Cathryn A. Camper, Minneapolis Public Library

Review

"This unique contribution to dinosaur collections will spark anew a sense of wonder about a subject that appears to have a never-ending wealth of secrets to be discovered." Booklist, ALA
