She loved this bingo game right away! She was excited to see the Dinosaur Train characters. She was a little familiar with the concept of "bingo" from a game at her preschool, but had to learn the specific rules for this one. Unlike other games like Shoots and Ladders where she pretty much just wants to make up her own rules and "freestyle" it, she picked up on the rules for this game right away and was playing a "real game" with us. She got the concept of using the two dice right away (one of the dice tells you which column -- i.e. B, I, N, G, or O -- and the other dice tells you which character to look for in that column -- Tiny, Don, Conductor, etc). The use of the two dice, identifying the columns, and then finding the right character in the right column does help with some early literacy and math skills, so that was a nice plus.
All in all, she really enjoys this game. It's also quick to play a single game -- ten minutes or so. So it's great when there's just a little time left before dinner, bedtime, etc. Since the rules are easy to learn, it's also a good game to pull out when a friend comes over.
And as I mentioned above, we don't play many competative games with our daughter. But she doesn't seem to mind the "win-lose" aspect of this game. What we do (her idea) is we actually keep playing until the next person also gets "BINGO" so that s/he can call out "BINGO!" as well. Everyone is happy!
