Rain Forecast,
By J H (LA, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dinosaur Training: Lost Secrets of Strength and Development (Paperback)
I don't want to be the guy who rains on the parade, but ... *everyone* gave five stars? Mercy. It's an okay book, with a very important message. Lift hard and heavy. Kubic spends 160 pages saying this. No citations, no science -- lots of sarcasm, which is fine, and lots of personal experience slash expertise, which is also fine -- but hardly any actual information. It's a long pep talk from coach. About lifting HARD with HEAVY weight!!!
The author is a lawyer, and absolutely in love with saying the same thing eight slightly different ways in the same paragraph. Cuz, like, that makes it better. Two possibilities. Either he is a writer, and so he writes a lot; or he's not a writer, and so he writes a lot. Alas, he needed an editor. The book should have been a fifth of its current length. Chapters are about 6 pages long. What does that tell us? He's collected his rants, and shared them. A good thing, if you need to be motivated, or if the philosophy is new to you, of lifting HARD with HEAVY weight like the oldtime REAL MEN used to do. If you have a background in real strength training, there's nothing new here for you. If you've messed around with the prettyboy pilates weights and it hasn't made you pretty yet, turn away from the mirror and take a look here. Kubic is right. He's just very very long winded, in an amusing way if you don't mind hearing the same ideas again and again. Anyway, I found the book free online in PDF form. I would have been pretty irritated if I'd payed for it. It's not bad. It just is no way great. The fact that it gets rave reviews from knowledgeable people is a surprise. J

Some people don't seem to realize that this book is still available, although not at amazon.
Go get it! It is an inspirational book written for people who care about good health, dinosaur strength and who want to achieve their fitness goals the natural way. I mean without roids! Be aware though that this is not a quick fix. It will take you up to 10 years to attain the strength of a mammoth, but it will be worth it.

One of the All-time Greatest Strength Training Books,
By Wottasnozzle (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dinosaur Training: Lost Secrets of Strength and Development (Paperback)
In writing Dinosaur Training, Brooks Kubik has blessed us with the finest strength training book written in more than thirty years, and one of the greatest and most inspirational strength training books of all time. If you want to learn the real, no-nonsense secrets to building true, functional strength that will last a lifetime, each page of Dinosaur Training is packed with those secrets. No gimmicks here, just hard work and how to do it the right and most productive way.
Kubik is no armchair authority. A former world record holder in the bench press, he is a lifetime drug-free lifter and athlete who practices the tried-and-true, old-school strength-building methods he details in Dinosaur Training. Today, past the half-century mark in age, Kubik is far stronger and fitter than the vast majority of much younger athletic men, a living testimony of Dinosaur Training's effectiveness. In conclusion, I give Dinosaur Training my highest recommendation, and I strongly urge you to do yourself a special favor and purchase a copy. It will be the best strength-training investment you will ever make.

As close to a weight lifting BIBLE as possible,
This review is from: Dinosaur Training: Lost Secrets of Strength and Development (Paperback)
First, I don't know where the previous poster gets his info, but Kubik DOES still train with weights. On his website, in an article dated March 08, he mentions working with dumbells.
Second, this book is still available in many online stores. I don't know why it is going for over $100 on Amazon. I bought it in summer 08 for 17 bucks. The book: As my title suggests, DT is the best book on training I have ever read. And I have read many over the last 20+ years. The book provides, in incredible detail, the prescription for bigger stronger muscles. The problem with so many other books is that they tell you what you want to hear instead of what you need to hear. DT tells it like it is. Hard work + heavy weights + progression + compound movements + abbreviated workouts = success. After 25 years of weight training I have finally gotten stronger and bigger, at age 39, following these principles. Ironically, I gradually figured it out on my own in the last couple of years. DT confirmed what I learned on my own, though it did also add to my knowledge base. There is no hype in this book, no pictures of steroid freaks, and nothing complicated. Kubik makes it clear from the start that this is a book for people who are drug-free, willing to work brutally hard, and not get swept up by what the crowd is doing this week. Following DT's priciples you will be successful. After YEARS of complete failure using every other training theory out there, it is a dream come true to finally have some success. The only thing to remember about DT is that 99% of the people in this world are too mentally weak to do it properly. I've watched videos on Youtube of people doing 20 reps squats for example. I've yet to see anyone doing them with the necessary intensity. I only wish I saw the light sooner. I must have spent THOUSANDS on books, suppliments and those idiotic Joe Weider magazines over the 1990's! Joe weider is a con man and manipulator who should be in jail! But "that's a whole other can or worms" as they say.

This book was one of the best training ones that I have read in a long while and I read quite a few of them. I am a successful strength coach and it is rare that someone makes my ears perk up when they talk about lifting and getting strong. Brooks' methods are so simple, yet so brutally hard and they are fresh. You don't need the marathon workouts and all the jazz, this guy did it training out of his garage. Pick this book up if you are serious about your strength training!

His theories are way outdated, NOT recommended!,
This review is from: Dinosaur Training: Lost Secrets of Strength and Development (Paperback)
I read the book and each chapter within the first few lines could tell the information was incorrect.
Ok, I do not have any powerlifting awards etc, but I do not need a Degree to know that if put my hand on a hot stove it will roast it. Have read plenty of power-lifting books, and of all this is the worst regardless of his dinosaurus workouts. Going all out 100% will NOT make you stronger. It has been proven by the University of Nebraska Husker system. I recommend Mike Mahler's e-books, in fact his is giving one e-book for free on his site when you subscribe your (any) email. Dinosaur Training follows the same way of thinking of P90X that I profoundly stay away because you will fry your nervous system within weeks. The book directly wastes too much time attacking other methods of training, and his tone througout the book seems too sarcastic and arrogant. Read so you know what not to do... The book is simple and basic, boring and the first 10 pages is all the book. I do not recommend it! He misses big points like the nervous system, joints, cardiovascular system, strength vs. power, cross-training, periodization, on and off season, OVER-TRAINING (which will certainly happen under his mentality). I dont mean he has to make the power-lifting bible, but such topics are fundamental if you want to get strong and big. I prefer to train smarter, not harder for better results. His old thinking (page 32, Dinosaur Training), of BE A MAN WHEN YOU GO TO THE GYM is way past expired and obsolete. Instead of been a total macho and end up wasting a complete season do to over-training and a huge medical because YOU will tear muscles and cartilage if you follow this book, buy instead THE PATH TO ATHIC POWER by BOYD EPLEY. In fact dont buy it, I was able to check out a copy at the local library. The main key to power and strength training is not about how to train, but how to train without getting injured and never burn out. Look for other routines like the 5 by 5, the 5/3/1 or the Westside system.

A great classic in Strength training,
By P.Y.GOD "Universe" (Chicoutimi, Québec) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dinosaur Training: Lost Secrets of Strength and Development (Paperback)
This book was instrumental in my powerlifting and strongman success. This book was a huge source of motivation for me in my quest to gain maximum size and strength naturally!
I've gained 126-pound of muscle by following old-time strength training method like the one you find in this book! I hate what the strength sport have become: steroids, drugs, supplements, power suits, knee wraps, and all that crap... It's sad to see what the sport have become. But fortunately; there still authors like PYGOD, Brooks D.Kubik, Steve Justa, Bradley J.Steiner, Stuart McRobert, and Bud Jeffries to preach a clean lifestyle and strength training without drugs and steroids. Dinosaur Training was the bible of strength for a long time but now that I've published my own book: "Cheating nature without steroids". My ultimate goal was to create something better than Dinosaur Training and I can proudly said than I achieve that by creating the best book ever written on strength training. Natural strength training! Be serious, stay focused, stay away from drugs and steroids, and read my book: "Cheating Nature without Steroids".
