Dinosaur leaps and runs off the simple but vivid backgrounds to face his next opponents—"a bowl of spaghetti," "talking grown-ups," and a bath before succumbing to sleep. Illustrations with strong lines and bright colors keep the energy high without being cluttered. You know that PBS Kids spot where the pig runs around and eats things that begin with the letter "p"? Bob made that! He made a bunch of other animations for PBS Kids and helped them develop a national literacy campaign.

He has met Al Roker and Fonzie.

His stories, artwork and characters have also appeared on Nick Jr. and Noggin. He was even on Noggin, reading one of his books to Ryan, his little boy.

Bob likes to speak in the third person.

Bob has written several children's books, including New Socks, Big Plans, which was illustrated by Lane Smith, Dinosaur vs. Bedtime, Race You To Bed, and Oh Daddy.

Dinosaur vs. Bedtime was one of Amazon's Top 10 Picture Books of the year, and a Horn Book Magazine best of 2008.

He lives in Connecticut with his wife Colleen and his son, Ryan. He and Colleen own Perfectly Nice, a graphic design studio.

The last reviewer, K. Cutler, describes Mr. Shea's illustrations as "monotone" and "unlike the vivid clever artwork by Lane Smith." Thanks for the compliment K but I must respectfully disagree. Not about my artwork. You nailed it buddy. No, I'm talking about Bob's art. Bob, a highly regarded and sought after art director and illustrator knows that these two totally different books require two totally different approaches. "Big Plans," an epic story, needs illustrations with epic scope (football stadiums! Mountain ranges! Outer space!) while "Dinosaur vs. Bedtime" requires precise, minimal art to support its delightfully simple recurring gag... without killing it.

Like a lot of my peers, I am green with envy for this book. I love the subtle textures, drybrush line, shapes, patterns and color. If UPA were still making cartoon shorts, they would no doubt recruit Dinosaur as their next big star.

This book was showcased on Noggin (with a reading at bedtime) long before it was published. So we already knew the story by heart, but my 3-year-old daughter was still very excited to get the actual book. It's one of our new "standards" and some nights, she even sleeps with it.
