Dinosaurs were wiped out sixty-five million years ago. But what if they weren’t? What if we traveled back in time and changed history, allowing them to survive and evolve alongside humans? What then? What would they grow up to become?

Dinosauria is a character-centric, post-apocalyptic, scifi time travel novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dinosauria...wonderfully engaging! April 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased this as a filler-between-series book, and was pleasantly surprised by the story, the characters, and the well-developed world I encountered. The premise is that a group of time-travellers land in an alternate version of today's Earth, post-apocalyptic, populated by sentient dinosaurs, and humans who are slaves, food, and worse; other humans are above and apart from slavery/food, living outside the major dinosaur cities. The author weaves his current-day characters' memories into the action, leading us to better understand who they are and how they came to be this way.
There's drama, mutants, technology, power struggles, a touch of romance, zombie-free post-apocalyptic lands, and an alternate reality timeline...all wrapped up in a fast read. I purchased the following 3 books immediately on finishing this one.
(I would have given this book 4.5 stars if possible: there are some typos that need to be edited.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Syfy Channel Movie as Book August 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
My take on this novel is a bit different from those who have written glowing reviews. If you like your stories with lots of action, and don't mind cardboard characters and borderline cheesy dialogue, you'll enjoy this novel. To me, it reads much like one of those original Syfy channel movies--long on action, but short on character motivation and development. I won't re-hash the storyline, as others have reviewed the major plot points. I will mention, though, that the novel almost seems as if it is either the second one in a series, or the first few chapters were somehow inadvertently deleted, because events that would explain who these people are, and precisely how and why they got to this alternate earth are alluded to, but never explained. I realize the authors want to create a "Lost" type sense of mystery, and plan to gradually explain in the sequels, but I found the lack of clear information unecessarily confusing. Some additional exposition to clarify prior events would only improve the story. The alternate earth with sentient dinosaurs as the masters is inventive, however, and I will likely download the second one in the series to at least see what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling to the last page June 11, 2013

This was a good book. It makes you stop and think about time travel and the side effects thereof. Not recommended for teens due to the language but other than that, I really enjoyed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wanting More September 25, 2011
By Suzanne
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
What a good read, now I want more!!!! It has a good mix of characters and villians. Is Jack a hero or a jerk? Can't wait to find out more. This first book sets the stage and gives a good introduction to the characters and there new situation. I will be buying the rest of the series. If you like Lost or Dinotopia this is the book for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for dinosaur lovers October 26, 2012

I had just hope for this book. I found many, many similarities with the series LOST, even some names. True, I didn't finish the book because I am not interested in talking dinosaurs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dinosauria Part 1: The Garden April 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Initially the name grabbed me... This book is DEFINITELY NOT my normal genre. I have throroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read the next "part"! I have recommended it to our book club. It can be confusing if you aren't paying attention with giving you little tibits of info before explaining what's going on... It's like a movie/TV show for your mind :) It slowly plays out and is hard to put down. Hope others enjoy this as much as I did.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of mysteries April 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A group of twenty-something scientists crash lands on a jungle covered island. Their vehicle lies beneath the ocean. Apparently, the egg shaped vehicle was some sort of time machine. There is the possibility that they have altered the past prior to crashing on the island. Interestingly, two of the women in the group, Andie and Andrea, are versions of the same person from alternate time lines.

The young scientists soon begin having various interpersonal issues. Andie and Andrea both loved two of the men during their time lines. The characters act impulsively. They go off by themselves, or in small groups, because they are angry, upset or reacting to a perceived slight.

One of the characters, Jack, seems different than the rest. At one point a prehistoric creature eats part of his foot. Then, miraculously, the foot grows back. When all the others seem to have massive headaches, he doesn't. At times he seems to be able to see and affect the future.

The island they are on is very strange. Day and night are shorter than normal. They often are varied in length. There are dangerous fishopod creatures living in the ocean. And there are dangerous man-eating velociraptors living on the island.

And we still haven't gotten to the "Truman Show" like garden dome, the mutated zombie creatures, the blast lands, the two copies of Earth in the sky above Earth, the Prophecy, the Saurians, or the train made out of diamonds run by a bipolar million year old computer.

For me, this book felt like season one of television show like "Lost". There are plenty of mysteries. Several characters have flashbacks or dreams which may or may not be relevant to the plot. And in the end there is no resolution, only more mysteries.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unlikable characters October 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a review of the Kindle version.

Well, it's not many books that I can say are both incomprehensible and boring. Hard to pull both of those off, but the author did it.

None of the characters are likable, and I kept hoping for the dinosaurs to get them all. Andie and Andrea, bleah. And Jack - ugh. When you have the, apparant serious, line "I am Jak of all things. I am God" said to utahraptors, it's hard to maintain any suspension of disbelief.

It also has Dr. Jonathan Crane as a character. Now, if this book had a Scarecrow fight with Batman, it would have gone up at least 2 stars. You at least expect Crane to start busting out the fear gas.

This book also won't age well. Way too many modern references, but I doubt the author was shooting for a classic, so no harm there.

If free, try it, but I can't recommend it for anyone.
