Engaging and Informative,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dinosaurs First Discovery Books (Hardcover)
My three year old who is obsessed with dinos just can't get enough of this book. Its spiral binding and sturdy laminated and transparent pages stand up to the continuous reading. There is just enough information to intrigue a child without being cumbersome. The two sided clear pages are simply facinating to a young reader. This is just one of the fabulous books in the First Discovery series

The Best for Connecting Skeletons to Dinos,
By Carbon's Mom (Olympia, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dinosaurs First Discovery Books (Hardcover)
My two year old loves dinosaurs, but most of the books I've found for him left him confused about the connection between the skeletons, the fossils, and the pictured live dinos. This is the only book I've found so far to clearly show scientists finding fossils and constructing skeletons in a way that interests such a young child.

This review is from: Dinosaurs [With Transparent Pages] (Scholastic First Discovery) (Paperback)
This book has two errors.
It says that many modern day reptiles are descendants of Dinosaurs. Birds are. The Dinosaurs do have common ancestor with reptiles, but mostly the term Dinosaur if used correctly in it's strictest since excludes reptiles. It also says the dinosaurs were around for 150 million years. They were around for 160 million. The other fault I have is this book does not make it clear that the "flying reptiles" were not related at all to the dinosaurs that lived along beside them. I just try to remember, each night as my Toddler demands this errored book over and over and over and over, that it was written in 1991. Much has changed in the minds of paleontologist since then and it's only two real errors. What a shame - it's bright and attractive. A very visually beautiful book that introduces terms such as carnivore and herbivore. My son 23 month old loves this book above all others.
