The mystery of dinosaur extinction is solved! Scientists have plenty of theories about why dinosaurs are extinct, but the UK’s bestselling authorillustrator team of Claire Freedman and Ben Cort knows the real answer: The dinos were wiped out in an Underpants War! This wacky celebration of underpants is perfect for reading aloud, and the hilarious antics of T. rex and the gang are endlessly entertaining. Featuring fun, vibrant art and short, rhyming text, Dinosaurs Love Underpants is a prehistoric pleasure parents and kids will want to read again and again.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS—Freedman and Cort offer another homage to underpants. Cartoons in bright colors and patterns pep up the rhymed tale that explains the demise of dinosaurs. According to Freedman, "When T. rex saw man's undies,/He roared with deafening rants./I don't want to eat you up./I want your underpants." All dinosaurs follow the obsessive fad, escalating to a manic dino tug-of-war that wipes out every order, saving mankind. Despite the skimpy plot, preschoolers will giggle as itchy or tight briefs annoy Stegosaurus or Diplodocus, while theft victim cavemen shyly cover up with huge leaves or the few remaining pairs of underwear.—Gay Lynn Van Vleck, Henrico County Library, Glen Allen, VA

From Booklist

As long as you can suspend all sense of evolution, literature, and good taste and are of a single-digit age, you’ll crack up with hysterics at this theory of dinosaur extinction from the creators of Aliens Love Underpants (2007). According to the story, cavemen began to feel “embarrassed in the nude,” and so they “dreamed up underpants,” which the dinos coveted and copied, creating a mass frenzy that escalated into a Mighty Underpants War and the end of the giant beasts. Once again, the rhyming text and illustrations turn this into a comic delight. Preschool-Grade 2. --Andrew Medlar

2.0 out of 5 stars A sure fire winner that misses the mark January 19, 2010
Format:Hardcover
You would think that any story that had underpants and dinosaurs in it would be a sure bet as a group read aloud. Not so. The rhyming does not flow and the story line is so silly that I think the kids even realize that this makes absolutely no sense. This could have been so much better. I really liked the illustrations - they are nice and vibrant, but even they can't save this book. It's too low on laughs - once you get over the initial laughs that are generated from the mere mention of underpants, there's just nothing there. Stick with Aliens Love Underpants and any of the other zillion dinosaur stories out there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this one! Buy Aliens instead. March 27, 2010
By Kate T.
Format:Hardcover
We LOVE Aliens Love Underpants, and I was so excited to see this book...my son loves dinosaurs. I eagerly read through it and was horrified! I cannot comprehend how the author, illustrator and publisher all thought this was a good idea. The dinosaurs kill each other...they are lying dead in the last pages. I agree with another reviewer...rewrite it! It is not appropriate for the target audience at all. I would give it zero stars if Amazon allowed.

1.0 out of 5 stars dinosaurs love underpants January 10, 2009
Format:Paperback
this was a big disappointment. the first underpants book, Aliens Love Underpants, was innovative, funny, and sweet. Dinosaurs starts out that way, but deteriorates into unpleasant violence. This is a SMALL CHILDRENS' book, for Pete's sake. Rewrite it.

4.0 out of 5 stars My 6 year loves this book November 24, 2010
Format:Hardcover
Length: 1:35 Mins
While I agree with some of the points made by other reviewers (an absurd premise and a weird ending), my 6 year old finds this book hilarious. Yes, she gets that it is nonsensical, but, she finds it funny that dinosaurs are obsessed with underpants. We have not read the Aliens Love Underpants book. The ending is not horrifying in the sense that we all know that the dinosaurs were, indeed, "wiped out." What other reviewers seem to have missed is that it is actually a play on words ~ "wiped out" meaning exhausted as well as "wiped out" meaning extinct.

While not high literature, this is an entertaining book, especially for children of a certain age who find potty humor funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE it! January 25, 2011
Format:Hardcover
I am cracking up as I'm reading these reviews! This book is non-sense, but it's the best kind of non-sense! I have three boys ages 20 months to 6 years, and they all LOVE this book! It is without a doubt one of their very favorites. They laugh hysterically every time we read it. The beginning of the book tells you that this is the story of how dinosaurs went extinct. My boys have noticed that dinosaurs aren't roaming around the neighborhood and indeed don't exist anymore. So...the ending isn't at all horrifying to them. I haven't read "Aliens Love Underpants," and from what I can gather that may be the one people prefer. Having not read that one though...this book is just awesome. Love it, love it, love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful story January 30, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Dinasours love underpants is a cute rhyming story for children that love to laugh at the thought of dinasours wearing underpants. This is a new humerous version of why dinasours go extinct. My son can't help but laugh every time I read this to him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud funny March 21, 2011
Format:Hardcover
My 6 year old has just managed to read this aloud to my 4 year old (just with a little help with the Dinosaur names) and they were both laughing hysterically at the fabulous story. There are lots of brilliantly hilarious illustrations in this very large paperback edition to keep young children amused too.

The front cover is great and the 'Dinosaurs Love Underpants' is in sparkly blue lettering. It is a gift giving quality edition.

There are 24 main pages of story with a 4 line self contained poem on every other page. They have great rhyming and rhythm and together they form a brilliant story explaining a funny theory of why the dinosaurs became extinct.

The poem starts:

Dinosaurs were all wiped out,
A long way back in history.
No one knows quite how or why,
Now this book solves the mystery....

It all began when cavemen,
Felt embarrassed in the nude,
So someone dreamt up underpants,
To stop them looking rude.

And so it goes on in a really entertaining story.

Highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing... cavemen vs. dinosaurs, really? January 11, 2011
Format:Hardcover
This book was a major disappointment. The illustrations are vibrantly colored and well done, but the premise of the story is awful - besides the dinosaurs killing each other at the end over underpants, having dinosaurs and cavemen exist in the same time period is plain silly and wrong. (Yes I realize it is fiction but it takes the reader out of the story when they feel the need to make sure their kids understand that cavemen and dinosaurs did not exist at the same time no matter what the book says.) The rhyming of the story was also off, some verses rhymed while others didn't. Overall, I was disappointed in the book and wouldn't recommend it to others.
