Editorial Reviews

Review

"This comprehensive volume is essential for anyone with a serious interest in dinosaurs. Students of dinosaur anatomy and evolution will find it invaluable.... Highly recommended." ―Choice, January 2010

"Fernando Novas has been in the thick of things, personally involved as a researcher in some of the major issues in the renaissance of South American dinosaur paleontology. Among his important discoveries are the abelisaurids, a previously unknown group of Gondwanan predators (with José Bonaparte); the extremely primitive Eoraptor; and new finds of herrerasaurs. He gives personal as well as professional insights to these finds. Definitely recommended!" ―Tom Holtz, University of Maryland

"This book is the first of its kind to describe the dinosaurs of South America. It is well illustrated with black-and-white figures and 20 color plates. Anyone with a technical interest in dinosaurs will want this book!" ―scienceblogs.com, September 1, 2009

Format: Hardcover
For anyone with an interest in dinosaurs, the book is an extensive review of many recent diggings in South America. The narrative is heavily illustrated with sketches and colour plates of fossilised bones. Also, it shows how from such bones, much can be inferred about the dinosaurs' habits and living conditions.

The reconstructions of the whole dinosaurs are especially graphic.

The book is also more than a mere recitation of fossils. It places each fossil in the much broader perspective of known and newly found families. A comparative analysis is often done on each fossil.

The book perhaps helps address relatively overlooked finds in South America, compared to better known results in North America. More broadly, to anyone who enjoys learning about the past, you can spend many hours appreciating what Novas has done for you.
