Book Description

June 30, 2004
Dion Fortune (1891–1946), founder of The Society of the Inner Light, is recognized as one of the most luminous figures of 20th-century esoteric thought. A prolific writer, pioneer psychologist, and powerful psychic, she dedicated her life to the revival of the Western Mystery Tradition. She was also a member of the Order of the Golden Dawn, whose members included A.E. Waite, Aleister Crowley, and W. B. Yeats.

In print for nearly 70 years, Dion Fortune’s The Mystical Qabalah remains a classic in its clarity, linking the broad elements of traditional Kabbalistic thought—probably going back to the Babylonian Captivity—with both Eastern and Western philosophy and later Christian insights. Dion Fortune was one of the first adepts to bring this "secret tradition" to a wide audience. As part of her teaching, Dion Fortune demonstrated, as she said, the intimate association between Kabbalah and "that most marvelous system of symbolism, the Tarot." It is this association that forms the basis for The Dion Fortune Tarot Cards.

The images on the cards have been designed and assembled by David Williams, Warden of The Society of Inner Light for the past 16 years. In line with the teachings of Dion Fortune, this tarot deck is primarily intended for meditation and reflection. The meanings and information contained in the booklet are based on the conclusions presented in The Mystical Qabalah and the Path Working spreads are drawn from traditional Kabbalah, such as the Supernal Triangle, the Ethical Triangle, and the Three Pillars.

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, September 15, 2004

I am very disappointed with this set. The deck has some of the worst artwork I have ever seen; absolutely atrocious. The booklet is tiny, and filled with basic magical and kabbalistic correspondences, as well as information on pathworking, all easily found elsewhere. As far as I can determine, this set's sole purpose for existence is to capitalize on Dion Fortune's name, which I notice that authors - the Society of the Inner Light - have now trademarked. Yuck!

The art work is horrendous! If Dion were here today she would sue! However if you are a collector of Tarot card you should buy it as I am sure it will be off the market soon. This is truly an AWFUL deck! If there had been a no star rating I would have given it NO STARS.

1.0 out of 5 stars Uninspired, unimaginative profiteering on the name of an imaginative visionary, May 11, 2007
This review is from: The Dion Fortune Tarot Cards: Based on the Conclusions of Dion Fortune in the Mystical Qabalah (Cards)
A Tarot deck whose cover image does not show a single sample card? Does that make you suspicious?

A brand new Tarot deck whose supposed author has been dead for decades and who never created a Tarot deck? Does that make you suspicious?

If neither of those facts arouses your suspicion, then buy this deck. And the Brooklyn Bridge.

Alas, the purpose of this product is clearly not to communicate inspiration and insight from the teacher to the student, but simply to transfer $30 from the consumer to the merchant.

Dion Fortune is surely turning over in her grave; and if the Society of the Inner Light really believes in magic, that should make them nervous. As well as guilty and embarrassed.
