What it is:A mascara with an innovative oblique brush that curls and defines lashes. What it does:DiorShow Iconic Mascara is the latest in Dior's dazzling range of best-selling mascaras. Created backstage for fashion shows and celebrity red carpet events, the Iconic mascara features an oblique cut brush that gives an extra lash-curling effect. With its long, skinny teeth, the plastic comb brush allows you to precisely coat each lash one-by-one-creating a long, separated fan of lashes that usually takes the skill of a makeup artist. The extra-hold formula provides a 24-hour-curl with 100% smudge-proof results. What else you need to know:Inspired by the tailoring technique of cutting fabric on the bias to create maximum curve, the Iconic brush features soft silicone bristles that spiral around the stem to lift, curl, and separate every lash.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best mascara yet!, November 27, 2008
A co-worker of mine recommended this product not so long ago, so I decided to try it since it looked so great on her. I have always been on the hunt for next the best mascara, and I have tried a LOT of brands over the years including Lancome (Hypnose, Definicil, L'extreme) , Clinque, Cover Girl, Loreal, Maybelline, Revlon, etc...), but none blew me away. I really like Lancome's mascaras, however there is one problem, and it's same problem I have with all the other brands - SMUDGING. At the end of the day, my areas around my eyes get smudged and darkened and I HATE IT so much. Even when I don't rub my eyes all day, the mascara still gets smudged!

Well, this is where DIOR Iconic differentiates! It doesn't smudge at all unless you rub your eyes pretty hard. It still gives me the same effect as the other brands -- long, thick, no-clump, curvy lashes WITHOUT the smudging all day! I am Asian so I always need to curl my lashes for an extra lift no matter which brand I use. I find that if you warm up your curler before you use them, your curls will hold up longer and stronger. Sometimes I use the heat vent in my car or a hair dryer will do. It always works!

2.0 out of 5 stars Oh how I wanted to like this... and didn't., February 6, 2009

For me, this mascara was a huge letdown. Note: my eyelashes are thick, but could use a little extra volume and are on the medium-long side, just with very light tips.

I tried applying Iconic three different ways:

1. Straight away (no eyelash curling) since it's supposed to curl
2. Curled, minus lash primer
3. Curled plus lash primer

PROS:
-It stays on all day
-It doesn't smudge

CONS:
-It makes lashes feel gummy (primed and not)
-It does not lengthen whatsoever (even primed and curled)
-It's not a rich back (sadly, Loreal's black is blacker)
-The fact that it's supposed to lengthen/curl/volumize reminds me of a printer/fax/scanner i.e. it's a product that tries to do so many things, it falls flat in all areas

IMO, Iconic performed pathetically, given its price. Perhaps I got a bad tube, but I certainly won't buy another to find out.

4.0 out of 5 stars works great, November 12, 2008

(REAL NAME)
I have tried tons and tons of mascara over the years (I'm 35). I gave this 4 stars for a couple of reasons. 1. I've only been using it about a week now. and 2. it did not blow me away.
That being said, it is a very nice mascara. I didn't notice that it really thickened much more than other mascara's I've used in the past. But I definitely feel like I can wear this with out using an eyelash curler. I feel like it does truly curl the lashes. I did notice that it lengthened nicely although not so dramatically so that I haven't found with other mascara's. It's light on the eyelashes and defined at the same time and has not clumped on me at all even when applying several coats of it. It definitely overall is a solid mascara and I would most likely buy it again once I'm done with this tube.
A little insight. I've used brand name high end mascara's as well as your average store mascara. I have found that time and again I always end up returning to L'oreals Lash Out Mascara that I used for years (we'll see if I do that this time as I'm really liking the Dior mascara). And there was a time when I combined using Great Lash (curved brush) with Lash Out and my friends would always comment on how long and thick my lashes looked. That was of course about 20 years ago and have not tried that combo since so I can't say for sure if it would work the same today. I do know for me that Great Lash never works for me on it's own. Doesn't do anything for my lashes.
Back to Dior Iconic. For the short time that I've used it, it has worked really well and I would definitely recommend it. Even at the price that it is, it's still worth it.
