A fine, quiet watch winder, missing one desired setting, but overall a winner, April 29, 2010
This review is from: Diplomat Black Wood Double Watch Winder with Black Leather Interior and 4 Program Settings (Watch)
I received this watch winder for my birthday, and is a fine case for valuable or attractive watches. Someone reviewing another Diplomat case complained that the case is not wood, but plastic ... I think that's erroneous. This case is heavy, clearly made of wood, but with a high gloss, black piano finish. It even comes with a dust cloth for cleaning it (for your watches, I'd recommend something like a washable
3M Microfiber Lens Cleaning Cloth or
3M Microfiber Electronics Cleaning Cloth to take skin oils off).
The unit is whisper quiet, barely audible when it's spinning. The motor is fairly slow, 8 RPM or so. If my math is correct (it's probably not), the 2 minute turn 6 minute wait cycles would spin/wind the watch 1530 times over a 12 hour period. The method that spins 5 minutes clockwise, then 5 minutes counterclockwise, repeated for 3 hours and then "sleeping" for 9 hours, would spin/wind a watch roughly 1543 times in a 12 hour period. I only wish it had a setting for winding a watch intermittently (e.g. 2 minutes on, then 8 minutes off), then sleeping for 9 - 24 hours. Use of a digital timer on the outlet may accomplish that. (The winder comes with an AC adapter, but will run on two AA batteries as well.)
If your automatic watch has a failsafe mechanism which stops winding the mainspring when it's "fully wound" (and almost all modern automatics do), this device won't overwind your watch. But consider that running a watch continuously will put more wear and tear on it than if you let it run down, and start it up again and set it when you put back on (this applies to those who have more than 2-3 automatics, and change watches more often than changing their underwear). So keeping a watch fully wound 24/7 in a case like this is probably going to accelerate the need for a periodic servicing by a watchmaker.

Classic Piano Finish - Very Quiet, October 18, 2010
This review is from: Diplomat Black Wood Double Watch Winder with Black Leather Interior and 4 Program Settings (Watch)
Great watch winder for the price. Label on top is cheap looking but this is cosmetic. Motor works nicely and is super quiet. Finish is beautiful. Drawbacks, two watches sit very close to each other so 2 watches on rotating platform (44mm+)touch each other. Luckly I always have one on, and the other on my wrist. Other draw back, big wristed bands (>7in) end up with watch touching lid when lid is closed. Takes some careful adjustment when setting watch on platform to make sure watch clears glass face when rotating.

Nice looking winder... but doesn't work well, October 4, 2010
This review is from: Diplomat Black Wood Double Watch Winder with Black Leather Interior and 4 Program Settings (Watch)
I must say that this is a very nice looking watch winder. It has a beautiful piano black finish, and very nice leather interior, but the most important part is lacking... the motor that rotates this thing is worthless. They went cheap on the most important part. This is my second watch winder mind you, after sending back the first one after a week because I thought it was defective. The first couple of days it works quietly, then it starts making a whining noise, and then it makes sounds like something is loose inside. The exact same thing happened with my replacement. So my advice would be not to waste your money on this product, unless you want a shiny pretty box that doesn't work.
